I've been driven totally crazy by by Great Grandfather John Vincent. I've tried him in various forms on here before but I thought I'd give it another go! I cannot seem to find him pre 1897 and I wondered if anyone can offer some help.
1901 census Northamptonshire - appear with wife Jane and son Arthur and 2 visitors - gives age as 26 born Peckham, London and his occ Infanty of Foot
1900 Marriage cert - married Jane Durrant at Northamptonshire Reg office gives occ as Private 2nd Battallion Northamptonshire Reg aged 25 - father Arthur Vincent deceased baker.
October 1897 - found enlistment paper on Ancestry gives his age as 20 and 2 months. Place of baptism St Giles Camberwell - former occupation Baker. Joined Northamptonshire Regiment.
Email from Royal Chelsea Hospital - "John Vincent served Military Provost Staff Corps (probably not his unit) original service 22 6/12 years Out Pension 20 may 1920 In Pension 18 Jan 1949 Died 14 Feb 1951 aged 77 Private Burial - your ancestor prabbaly served in the 2nd Btn Northamptonshire Reg which was until 1881 th 58th Reg of Foot"
Johns Death cert Leatherhead 13.4.1951 - died 14.2.1951 at RCH Infirmary Leatherhead - John Vincent Male aged 77 admitted from royal Hospital Chelsea informant C J Woodham (Daughter)
Only other info about him was that it is believed he was from German descent although no one seems to know how far back or where etc.
I cannot find him. I have found an Arthur Vincent born suffolk) who was a baker in London in the 1881/1891 etc census but he didn't marry until 1882 and appears to have no Johns with him at anytime - he possibly could have been his father out of marriage. can't find a bc that seems to fit - all the likely ones are still about in 1901 census when I know where my John is. He is driving me totally batty and I'm not likely to get to archives to look up service records which may or may not help.
John and Jane had further children - Caroline Jane 1906 Florence Victoria 1908
John Henry 1909 and Alice may Louise 1914 if the names will help any.
I'd be so grateful if anyone can help.
