World War One / Re: Help needed to decipher WW1 Medal card (pls!)
« on: Thursday 07 January 10 20:04 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks Corisande - I looked in the london Gazette but couldn't find the record for Richard Francis' commision which was a shame. And there doesn't seem to be much on NA in terms of service records for him either but it also says a lot of the records were lost in ww2 so that might be the reason. but we'll keep trying so thanks for your comments and suggestions. much appreciated.

Brilliant! that's really helpful everyone, and this means a lot to my neioghbour who never knew much about his father's activities in WW1.

one other question, if you don't mind: Don (the neighbour) believes his father was a pow and he's got a letter from King george in 1918 basically thanking him for his service and his fortitude during his incarceration. It was hand written but I'm assuming this type of letter was a common letter sent to officers at the end of the war??? and any ideas how I might find where he was held prisoner?

Many thanks again all.

Armed Forces / Lookup request for Crimea and India Medal Rolls
« on: Friday 31 October 08 17:44 GMT (UK)  »
I have an ancestor (Henry Cook born 1830) who was a private in the 6th (inniskilling) Dragoons and was in India following his time in the Crimea.

I'm hoping he took part in the charge of the heavy brigade but have no proof yet but I'm told he was eligible for the Balaklava clasp.

If there's someone out there with the medal rolls for either the Crimea and/or India could they please do a search to see if this is all true?

Many thanks!
Steve

Thanks Guys - much appreciated. Sorry for the delay in response - unfortunately family and job takes priority over family research, which is a shame as it's fascinating. I wish I'd started this years ago. Anyway, thanks.

Thanks everyone - I appreciate the support. The IGI link looks very useful and I'll look into the stone fiche records. Fingers crossed!

Indaloman - where would I be able to get the BIVRI from? I'm happy to buy it but have no idea where to go to get it?

Similarly Aghadowey, where would I find the LDS catalogue to search it?

Again - all this is much appreciated. I don't like to ask people to do look ups and am happy to do it myself but I'm still new to this and need the pointers from the experts!

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Query: Stone Parish Registers
« on: Saturday 19 January 08 11:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hello - I seem to have a number of my family coming from the Stone area PEACH and WARRILLOW. I've reached the limit of census / BMD and now need to start looking at Parish records. Unfortunately

I don't have much time to travel around, so does anyone know if the STONE parish records have been transcribed and if so where I could buy a copy? I'll need the Births/Baptisms, Marriages and burial records.

I've tried a few of the obvious suppliers (like the Geneologist and Parisshchest) and they don't have them.

Any guidance much appreciated.

Many thanks

England / Help with JUSTER please
« on: Wednesday 12 December 07 12:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I'm trying to find out some information on Annabel (Ann) Juster born c.1827 according to census information. In particular I'm trying to find any evidence of her marriage to William Perkins. the 1861 Census information places her birth in Middlesex and she seems to have died before 1871, probably between 1868 and 1871.

However I've scoured the BMD (from 1845 to 1857) and can't find any evidence that they were married although I have a birth certificate for the first born son (Frederick John)  dated 10 Jan 1852 which states her name as Annabell (although she used Ann in the census) Perkins formerly Juster. I got another birth certificate for one other child just to be sure of the name. At the time of birth, they were in Wycombe, Bucks but then moved to Middlesex where William became a coachman.

I've also scoured the 1841 and 1851 census for any information on Juster and there's no clear match.  If I had any hair I'd be pulling it out!  :)

I'm hoping that as it's such a rare name someone may have some information. Any help greatly appreciated! :)

Kind regards
