Norfolk / Re: Oughton's of Docking/Stanhoe

Thanks for that Anniejay

My husband is descended from Alice Oughton's brother James (b c 1781) and his wife Lucy Holloway. I have James and Alice's parents as Edward Oughton and Sarah South or Smith who married in Docking in 1769 and that's as far back as I have got - do you have anything else?

Hi Rozzy
Do you know any more about Edward's ancestry before he went to Australia? I'm hunting for the parents of a James Langridge, born in Tunbridge Wells in about 1824. I have quite a lot of information on him after that but haven't been able to find any record of his birth. Could there be a link to your branch of the Langridge clan??

Thanks for the site link Dave - a useful one to know.
Also thanks Margaret - I'll look forward to hearing anything you come up with - I still haven't managed to confirm who Anne Boocock's parents were - only best guess so far!

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Boococks of Otley/Bingley

I am trying to establish the ancestors of Ann Boocock, (Bocock, Bowcock??)born about 1813, probably in Hawksworth, between Otley and Bingley. She married Jacob Denby on 8/9/1833 in Otley. The closest I have found so far is a Nancy Boocock, daughter of John Boocock and Grace Spencer, whose other children (I think) included Grace (1795) John (1803) Mary (1806) and Christopher (1817). Grace Snr was still alive in 1851 aged 81. Does anyone have any more information or access to parish records that might show who Ann's father was at her marriage?
Thanks
Katie

Hi Prue thanks for the message. Most of our Oughtons came from Docking, but as Stanhoe was the next village, I'm sure they were all probably related in some way - I've yet to find out how! Would it help if I sent you a gedcome file of what I have so far? You can contact me on katiepeerless@hotmail.com and perhaps we can build up a picture of the relatives.
Best wishes
Katie

My husband is descended from Mary Espin - one of John and Frances' children b c 1810. She married a John South b c 1807 from Torksey. Their family grew up in Nettleham and Cherry Willingham. I have John's parents as Thomas Espin and Alice Holland and Frances Roberts' father as possibly William and her mother as Frances. Does anyone else agree??

Does anyone have information on the Oughton family, descended from Edward Oughton b c1744 and Sarah Smith/South b c1748 from the Docking area? I'd be interested to hear from any relatives.
