Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / Re: Ramsey Baptisms LOOKUP needed - Ibberson/Hunns

Just realised that you are already be aware of the Tricker family in Stowmarket, and the Bentley connection

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=575179.0

It looks like the possible birth date of 1728 is calculated from his age at death

"Robert Everson buried 28 Nov 1794 age 66 Bentley St Mary"

Fair enough, good luck! It is a big task to work through and verify handwritten family trees...but an extremely important and satisfying one ;)

At least you have somewhere to start, and some family stories to work with. Some of the things passed down in my family ended up being true, though some were much less accurate. That is the joy of family history research though, sorting it all out and finding the gems.

My family did move around a bit a couple of generations down, but seem to be fairly consistent with Ramsey in this time period. of Francis Ibberson & Carrina Overall's children a few remained in Ramsey, but one ended up in London, and my direct line ended up in Benwick, Cambridgeshire. Only a few miles away, though officially a different county. My line then spread to Doddington & Witcham in Cambridgeshire, and Mildenhall, Herringswell & Newmarket in Suffolk. Eventually my line leaves the UK for Australia. Whereabouts are you now, still in the UK or did your family emigrate too?

I have had a little look at the Suffolk parish registers (on Ancestry) and I can see Robert Everson & Ann Tricker marrying in Stowmarket on 21 June 1749. The entry just says single man and single woman, it does not state their parish or any other information unfortunately. I would assume they were 'of this parish' but it does not specifically say that. It is a shame the marriage wasn't after 1754 when you would have at least had a witness or two to work with.

The children that you have listed...were they baptised in Bentley?

I can see what looks like an additional child to this couple baptised in Stowmarket as below, looks like they were pregnant when they married:

Sarah D of Robert Everson & Ann his wife Decr 25th 1749

It is quite common for the first child to be born in the bride's parish, so perhaps Ann Tricker was from Stowmarket and Robert Everson was from Bentley? Or perhaps he wasn't from Bentley originally...the family may have just moved there after the first child was born??

There is a baptism for an Ann Tricker in Stowmarket as below, that is a possibility:

Ann D of Philip Tricker & Susan ux Jan 22 1726/7

Ux is short for uxor which is latin for wife, this Ann would have been 22 if she married in 1749. Her mother is named Susan too, which is one of the children's names...though they did not name a son Philip.

The parish register for Stowmarket in this time period is not in great condition and some names can't be read...so keep that in mind when you are looking for Robert Everson ;)

Hello & Welcome to Rootschat  ;)

I can't see any link at this stage, but it is possible that your Everson & my Ibberson/Everson line may be connected somewhere further back.

In the 1750s my line were in Ramsey, Huntingdonshire about 60 miles from Stowmarket, Suffolk. Not particularly close, but not terribly far away I suppose. Have you come across any links to Ramsey in your research? Are there wills in your line that perhaps mention relatives in Huntingdonshire? Did you Robert Everson & Ann Tricker marry in Stowmarket or elsewhere? I note you have his birth as 1728, is this based on his age at death/marriage, or have you located a baptism?

My direct ancestor Francis Ibberson married Carrina Overall on 24 Mar 1743/44 in Ramsey and they had at least 5 children: Margaret, John, Carrina, Henry & Francis. The family were baptist, so there are no baptism records for them in the parish registers. I have Francis' will proved 1781 and have followed all the children's lines down a generation or so.

The previous generation does not contain any other males that I am aware of - Francis was born abt 1696 and he was potentially the youngest of 7 children born to John Ibberson/Everson & Margaret Hunns who married 24 May 1686 in Ramsey: Margaret 1688-88, Susannah 1689, Margaret 1691, Ann 1693, Elizabeth 1694/5, Mary 1696, and Francis. I have John's will proved 1722.

John's father was Francis Ibberson/Everson of Ramsey. I have a copy of Francis' will proved 1693/4. He mentions his son John, and John's living daughters Susannah, Margaret & Ann, but no other Ibberson/Eversons. I presume this means that John was his only son. I have not been able to get further back than Francis to date.

Interested to hear your thoughts...

Midlothian / Re: Burial Records Edinburgh - lookup please

Hey Richard,

Sorry, for some reason I did not see the replies on this thread, but I did see your personal message and have replied to that this morning  ;)

I too have found the information about Robert Rutherford the flesher/butcher who died in 1847 in Edinburgh, and believe that he may be the father of my ancestor James Rutherford.

A piece of evidence that suggests this might be the case is that Robert's death in Edinbugh was published in the newspaper in Caithness see below:

“DEATHS: At No. 2, Romilly Place, Tobago Street, Edinburgh on the 22nd ultimo, Mr Robert Rutherford, aged 41.” - John o’ Groat Journal, Friday 31 December 1847

I believe this indicates that he had relatives in Caithness, or was welll known in Caithness, otherwise why would his death be reported there?

In 1847 Elizabeth Sutherland was living in Berriedale, Latheron parish, Caithness with his reputed son the then 10yr old James Rutherford. Thomas Rutherford and his wife Jane Sutherland were also living in Olrig, Caithness in the 1840s, though by 1851 they had relocated to West Kilbride in Ayrshire.

Interested to hear your thoughts

You were indeed a help  ;)

John Overall who married Sarah Mitchell at Hemingford Grey in 1711 was the son of John Overall and Elizabeth Wagstaff, John was the brother of James Overall who married Carrina Hull.

I suspect that Martha who died at Hemingford Grey in 1680 was the wife of Henry Overall, another brother of John (bap 1640/1 Gamlingay) and James (bap 1642/3 Gamlingay). There are some legal records that mention a Henry Overall of Hemingford Grey, gent in 1682. But I am yet to prove that this Henry matches their brother baptised 1634 in Gamlingay, Cambs.

I believe they were all sons of Henry Overall & Mary Rowell who married in 1624 in Steeple Morden, Cambs. Henry Overall of Gamlingay died in 1668/9 and left a will.

How interesting that you have Overalls in your tree too

Hi mrs_orrell,

Thanks so much for having a look at the St Ives parish registers for me ;D

How wonderful to finally have Edmund Overall's wife's full name, their marriage date, and the birth/baptism dates for their daughters. So Anne and Carrine were not twins after all, and they were born before Edmund died in Dec 1736...he just didn't help me out and mention them in his will ::)

The Ann Overall buried in 1779 in Ramsey is Edmund's cousin (the daughter of his uncle Francis Overall and aunt Ann Burgess). She was a spinster, and left a will.

The Ann Overall buried in 1763 in Ramsey is her mother (Francis Overall's widow Ann nee Burgess). She also left a will.

Edmund Overall who I now know married Ann White in 1733 was the son of Henry Overall and Carrina Swaine, he was the grandson of James Overall & Carrina Hull who married in 1667 in Holywell cum Needingworth. James Overall and Carrina Hull had 13 children (the baptisms you found in Ramsey between 1668-1692), helpfully they both left wills naming various children and grandchildren. James Overall's son Edmund actually lived in London. He married firstly Sarah Bilio in 1707 at St John at Hackney, and after she died in 1708, married secondly Ann Bulkley in 1711 in Hampshire.

This family has been quite the challenge to sort out, there are many names repeated through the generations.....and to make it more complex a number of them became baptist so there are no baptisms to help figure out who belongs to who! I have had to work off marriages, burials and wills....thank goodness there are LOTS of wills ;)

As far as I can tell, Henry Overall and Carrina Swain did not baptise any of their 5 children (Edmund, Swain, Henry, Carrina & Ellen), and I am yet to find their marriage either (before 1712). I was just lucky that they named one of their children Swain, which lead me to check all the Swain wills in the area. Carrina's father Robert Swaine died in 1721 leaving a will that named his daughter and son-in-law Henry & Carrina Overall.

Thanks again...another missing link tidied up!

Thanks Galium, of course there are two  ::)

Hopefully the wills will help me keep them straight. My William Hunns died in 1677 (buried 29 Apr 1677), leaving a will (written 21 Apr 1677) in which he is described as William Hunns the elder. He names his children as, Jorat, Margaret, Grace, Edward & John. His wife was named as Elizabeth, whom he married 27 Feb 1662/3 (Elizabeth Tilley), after his first wife Margaret died in June 1662 following young Margaret's birth. Margaret Hunns born 1662 is my direct line.

William Hunns junior does not appear to be his son....possibly a nephew or cousin? William Hunns married Anne Potten 16 Oct 1666, and Dorothy born Feb 1666/67 must be their first child, hence the moniker junior being used.

Thank goodness for wills hey ;)

Hi Galium,

Thanks so much for looking those ones up for me ;)

Looks like we might be dealing with 2 John Ibberson/Eversons as there are two baptisms close together in 1688...

My John Ibberson left a will in 1722 mentioning his son Francis, and daughters Susannah (husband William Eate) & Elizabeth (married surname Lawrance), he also mentions his grandchildren (the children of Isaac Hanker, who had married Margaret Ibberson but she died in 1719).

Interesting that Francis does not show up in the Ramsey baptisms....he is my direct line. It is most likely that he was born after 1696, as he does not marry until 1723/4. He is not mentioned in his grandfather's will (Francis Ibberson 1693/4), but his sisters Susannah, Margaret and Ann are. So we are missing Ann as well....unless she is the unnamed daughter born in 1693. Which, now that I think about it makes sense as the will was written that year and Susannah and Margaret were born 1689 & 1691. The family were baptist by the 1740's so perhaps their non-conformism started before Francis' birth?

Did the Hunns family show up? Or are they also missing from the parish registers?
