The McGreal -Ralph connection is pretty intertwined.

One of the Ralphs emigrated to Austrailia when Fr John McGreal PP Mayo Abbey, prevented him from marrying his cousin, one of the McGreals from the Octogan, Westport.

Then hoping not to confuse you, my GGM is Bridget daughter of Dominick McGreal, Newforest married a John Lavelle, one of their sons Thomas married an Annie Ralph in New York (also his cousin and originating from Manulla)

This is the Lavelle/Ralph Grave in New York

Stacey

I am related to the McGreals in Westport, there are a few McGreal, Families but ours came from Carnalurgan outside Westport.

This would be the Patriach

One of the McGreals does marry a Ralph, these are connected to the Manulla Ralphs,
I am also a related to Niamh who was mentioned, she has extensive work done on the McGreals.

I haven't heard of any of the families emigrating to the UK, just Austrailia and the States.

Thanks for the census record links, I have reviewed these previously, but I have not been able to find a birth, baptism or marriage record for either William  or Mary.

 :)

This might be your William Gunning

Here hoping there's no frost in the morning, will leave Mayo in plenty of time.  :)

Hi

You can take the N5

It bypasses Charlestown and Swinford and goes through Bohola and Ballyvarry Villages.

You can take the road from either Castlebar town or Westport town to Achill.

I note you mention Ballycroy on your list as well, you will be passing nearby on the way to Achill.

Hope this is helpful

Have a look at this website, Kilgarvin is in the same area, (Attymass), and quite near to the Sligo/Mayo Border.  The Cemetery appears to be in Bonniconlon.  Must enquire about it.

Link pages look interesting too.

Just looking up the map for Griffiths, I find Jordans and Brogans living in the same area -Kilconduff
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&familyname=Jordan&firstname=Anthony&baronyname=&countyname=MAYO&unionname=&parishname=&Submit.x=44&Submit.y=15

Link to Parish Site
http://www.killaladiocese.org/parishes/knockmore.php

This area would be near Foxford, just approx 5 miles from Knockmore Parish.
When you drive around the Ox Mountains in Foxford, you are very near the Sligo Border, hence the reason they may have moved to Sligo.

This is an interesting site,.
It says that a "Catherine Brogan" from Knockmore had sailed prior to the Titanic and was awaiting friends
Also an Annie Jordan cancelled...no address for her

Better get some work done,   :)  good luck with your research

Mayo / Re: O'MALLEY FAMILY - Granuaile’s Castle and Lighthouse
« on: Thursday 11 August 11 18:54 BST (UK)  »
There are a numbers of Castles scatttered around the west Coast that were owned by Grainne (Grace) O Malley.  One of the stories told is that she slept with a rope from her ship tied to her bed so that should anyone attack same she was alerted.
