There is something wrong with these records or is just me approaching senility?
In this case, RR, I'm sorry to say but it's you.  :) Well, some bits, as you have the month correct, and given the usual weather we can get in January you no doubt remembered that bit correctly as well.  ;D

FreeBMD only has one Buff death registration in Boston registration district between 1961 and 1970. John T Buff, aged 75.
FreeREG has the burial date as 19 January 1965. And the PR also has noted 'plot number 535 (ex verger).
Sorry, I meant to add March quarter 1965, which would tie in with the burial date on FreeREG.

Also forgot to say, that if you no longer go to Boston, because you have a date of burial  (and back in those days burials usually took place within about ten days of death, often quicker) if you ask nicely via an email to Boston library they will probably send you copies of John/Jack's obituary/funeral report taken from the original newspapers, rather than any filmed ones. I can't remember when the filmed newspapers end; possibly about the end of the 1950s which is the current limit on the BNA website.
Depending on the day of the week a person died and was buried, you could have an obituary one week and a funeral report the next; or a combined report in one week.

Lincolnshire / Re: Ann Luffman
« on: Tuesday 07 March 23 10:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Roger, :)

If you really want to know Ann's mother (and possibly, though he's unlikely to be mentioned, father) then you have no alternative but to send for a copy of the birth certificate. Black-and-white PDF copies can be obtained from the GRO for £7, which is a bit cheaper than £11 for a fancy pink one.
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp
As Mabel has said, with no mother's maiden name detailed in the GRO Index, then it would seem that Ann was illegitimate.

I checked FreeREG for Luffman (+ Soundex) in Lincolnshire 1859 and 1860.
Two entries.
No baptisms.
One for a marriage of Elizabeth Luffman.
The other, burial of Ann Luffman, infant, 18 July 1860, in Great Steeping.
Person burial abode; Alford.
There are some Luffmans living in Alford in 1861, but I didn't investigate further.
Nor I have checked to see if there was a workhouse in Alford where baby Ann could have been living, and died.

Lincolnshire / Re: Zion Chapel, West Street, Boston
« on: Monday 08 January 18 05:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Loz,

Have just seen your query, so did a bit of googling.
Reading the description of this
https://www.lincstothepast.com/Site-of-former-Zion-New-Connexion-Methodist-chapel--West-Street--Boston/907096.record?pt=S
the document would seem to be a photo, presumably one of the three I found by searching the LLTP site.

If you go to the Lincstothepast site
https://www.lincstothepast.com/
click advanced search and then type Boston Zion Chapel in the first box labelled 'with all the words' and then select 'images' you should get two photos of the current chapel in Brothertoft Road, and three of the original one in West Street.

From that description the chapel where your ancestors married seems to have been on the site of the Regal cinema, which opened in 1937.
http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/48205
The frontage is on West Street, the road sign on the side of the building is Bond Street, so if you look at a map you will be able to find the precise location.

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Re: Is this the same person in the records
« on: Tuesday 14 February 17 06:23 GMT (UK)  »
SUSANNAH Auckland Baptised 22 Nov 1892, All Saints, Gainborough
Parents HENRY and MARY ANNE

(snipped)

I cant find Henry/Mary Anns Marriage but Henrys Sister ROSE married George BINNS, 24 Apr 1886, All Saints, Gainsborough, Father JOSEPH Auckland, Labourer

1871 the Family is under Angland
That's most unlike you Trish.  :)

Henry Auckland and Mary Ann Roberts are on the same FreeBMD page June quarter 1883 Gainbro' registration district.

(The 'spare' lady on that page is Sarah Haines, who is actually page 1425. I've advised FreeBMD of the error.)

Marriage is not in the 1837+ Lincolnshire Marriage Index http://mi.lincolnshiremarriages.org.uk/
and as most of the PRs for Gainsborough registration district have been deposited at Lincoln Archives (see Introduction), it's likely that Henry and Mary married in either the Register Office or a non-conformist church. Though see the note at the bottom of the Introduction page re some Notts parishes being in Gainsborough registration district.

Mary Ann's surname matches that in birth registration of Susanna Auckland December quarter 1892.

Hello Jason
I think the marriage cert. is the only way forward..the 1892 birth at Gainsborough has
the mothers maiden name as Roberts..not much help at this stage.

Lincolnshire / Re: Boston Lincolnshire Group?

I'm thinking it had its last meeting a few months ago.

If pamthomas happens to see this, she will know. :)

I've sent her a PM.
Thanks for the PM, Geoff-E.  :) I haven't been to the forum for a few days, so might have missed the query without your message.

The Boston branch of Lincolnshire FHS sadly closed in May this year.

Tackrill, as others have suggested post your query on the board and see what answers transpire. It would be helpful if you would say if you are within easy travelling distance of Boston (i.e. about an hour) because I know the library have certain local information.

I've contacted them a few times with the reference both via email and phone asking for cost and a copy without success. I'm in Scotland so it's cheaper/quicker to use their service than try myself but the Archives never work out for me, the library is  different story, I've had heaps from them in the past without any trouble.
That is really bad of them. Are they trying to do themselves out of a job?
Think I'd be asking to speak to the person in charge and complaining long and loud, and if that still didn't get a result then I'd be making noises to the county council.

Hello again.   The Joseph Goulson born Ropsley in 1707 is a farrier. His father is another Benjamin. If I were a betting man, I'd say your Benjamin, a grandson of Joseph b1707, is your man!  Andrew

That's what I'm hoping for, the Flickr photographs are mine. The Goulson family are amongst my direct line ancestors, there is another family with the same name in the Coningsby area but as yet they haven't been connected. It seems both families were pretty close geographically back to the 1700's in Leicestershire too  but there isn't anything that ties them to each other.

And thanks to Edward for the link, now if I can just get the archives to start a search for the marriage bond I might get somewhere with Benjamin and Sarah.
Are you talking about the marriage bond referred to in my post #2 in this thread?
If so, then there's no 'searching' as such to be done as you have the reference.
Also, Archives will send you (for a fee which might be cheaper than travel costs :)) a photocopy of the bond. Note that I think it's marriage bonds which usually have two pages.

Lincolnshire / Re: Lincolnshire churchyard MI's
« on: Saturday 03 September 16 00:33 BST (UK)  »
Lincs FHS haven't done them -

http://www.lincolnshirefhs.org.uk/images/lfhs-publications/PublicationsCoverage.pdf
That refers to publications. There are a lot of MIs which have yet to be (hopefully)  published.
Cumberworth has been 'transcribed'. There will be a copy at the LFHS Research Centre in Monks Way, and there is also a copy at the Society of Genealogists in London.
Free to view in Lincoln; charge to pay at SoG.
