Thanks Aghadowey,

The link on the Irelandxo forum was very interesting and seems to put the Hunters in Carmoney which is across Mulroy Bay from Carrowkeel (Kerrykeel) where Fannet Presbyterian church is situated.

I assume they travelled across Mulroy Bay on Sundays on small boats otherwise it was a fair spin by land down through Milford.

In the registers of Fanad (Fannett) Presbyterian Church was a Hugh Hunter of Kinavire (& various spellings)

Hugh Hunter (son of James & Fanny Hunter) married 1828 Lily Moore (dau of John & Rebecca Moore) and had issue
Rebecca 1829 Kinnyvire (she died young)
Fanny 1831 Kinnavarie
Matty 1832 Kinevire
Rebecca 1835 Kinavire
Eleanor 1839 (no address)

Any ideas of townland? It seems that Fannett Presbyterian attracted members from all over the Fanad peninsula.

Is the townland Kinnegar in Killygarvan parish? But I can find no Hunters there in the tithes or Griffiths valuation.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cork / Re: Donovan brothers from Durris?

Well, if Michael was 20 on the 1901 census and 30 on the 1911, then he was born ca. 1880, not 1882 as on the family tree.

So here is a good candidate.

Michael Donovan, son of Michael Donovan and Jane Donovan, bapt. Durrus 7/11/1880.
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634871?locale=en#page/134/mode/1up

I had considered this family but no son John Donovan  recorded in the civil registration records.

Well, where is Michael's (the father's) death in the civil registration records?

How many Michael Donovans, son of Michael Donovan options do you have to pick and choose from, born in Durrus ca. 1880?

Hint - precisely one?

As for not finding John's birth, multiple possibilities.
- Never registered.
- Registered, but misindexed/mistranscribed.
- They had moved. No sign of any of family in the area in 1901 census.

All good points.
Thank-you for your input much appreciated.

Antrim / Edward Hillas/Hilles or Hillis
« on: Saturday 10 May 25 08:00 BST (UK)  »
James Hillis married Lizzie McKee in St Paul's Belfast in 1897 and can be found in the 1901 census in Cupar Street, Belfast

https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000346270/

In 1911 the family were in Ross Street, Belfast

https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001524330/

According to James Hillis' civil marriage record of 1897 he was a son of Edward Hillis, car-driver deceased. The Catholic marriage entry actually names James Hillis' parents as Edward Hillis & Mary Murray.

I am struggling to find Edward Hillis the father - any help would be great, thanks.

Cork / Donovan brothers from Durris?
« on: Tuesday 29 April 25 19:20 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the origins of two Cork brothers who can be found in Dublin in the 1901 census as young men - Michael Donovan and his younger brother John Donovan.

1901 census
Residents of 45 in Ballsbridge Terrace (Part of) (Pembroke West, Dublin)
James McDonnell head RC 43 horse keeper born Carlow town
Boarders
Michael Donovan RC 20 Clerk born Co Cork
John Donovan RC 14 Clerk born Co Cork

Their father was a Michael Donovan farmer who was deceased by 1908 (marriage of Michael Donovan junior 1908 stated that his father was deceased).

The 1908 marriage (Church) certificate states that Michael Donovan senior was  from the Durrus area in Cork.
Family tradition also mentions Schull (on the other side of the local mountain from Durrus).

I have the family tree traced from these two brothers so really want to find the family in Cork so any help would be appreciated.

Leitrim / Re: Help with placename Killfyort

Looking at other Land records it appears Perrott had died by 1825 and his widow was Susanna.
In 1828 she agrees a lease or sale with Lancelot Lawder for part of the lands of Kild?agh in the  Barony of Carrigallen in the County of Leitrim.
Perhaps that’s where the Lodge was.

Thanks for this - I see Lancelot Lawder lived at Cloverhill, Co Leitrim and this is an address I have seen for the Innes family also.

Note i I believe Susanna Innes formerly Lawder was the mother of Perrott Innes of Killfort Lodge

A registered deed of 1822 gives the following details (ref book 775/page 7/ memorial no. 524942)
An indenture of Lease bearing date the nineteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two and made Between Perrott Innes of Killyfort Lodge in the County of Leitrim, Esquire of the one part and James McKane of the waterside in the Liberties of Londonderry farmer of the other part --

Looking information on the placename and any further references on Perrott Innes.
