Australia / Re: Cannot find Marriage of Rev William McRae and his second wife

Sue, this is confusing. Yeah. You're not wrong, ha ha.

A family letter sets out the story of the father. Losing wife in childbirth and returning to Scotland, then returning to see his dau Rose/Rosina.
The details of the story, both in date/time frame, and places, and events such as his death in Sydney Harbour match the life and times of Rev William McRae.
No I cannot prove he is the father, yet.
That is why I am asking all these questions.
Thanks for taking an interest. Yours was a good question to ask  :)

Misc - looks like Catherine's passage to NZ???  See Highland Lass.
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~caithara/Migrant_Women.html

Could be another Catherine Findlayson though as there are records linking her to another husband.
Yes That is the Rev's first wife.
Catherine, daughter of Roderick Finlayson, Rev. William Macrae
1875 Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, Auckland, NZ
Catherine Finlayson eldest dau of Mr R Finlayson, settler, Waipu.
1880 Catherine died.

I suspect the rev remarried 1880-1884.

Australia / Cannot find a death record for Amy MacRae 1884 New South Wales
« on: Thursday 13 December 12 20:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, all records we have seen for Rose say Parents Unknown although Rose states she was born Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia [was that her earliest memory?] Her mother died in childbirth.

>>>I wonder is there a death record for Amy MacRae in 1884.

1881 a William MacRae marries in Patrick Plains, New South Wales, Australia to Amy Hedges. Patrick Plains is just 300km [190miles] from Bathurst, New South Wales.

The dau of Rose is named Amye.

@TwiggyTree, thank you, yes my team leader just spotted that PATRICKS PLAIN marriage and thought it a pos.
However if you say no Rose perhaps not, although Rose always said her birthplace was Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia - or was that her earliest memory.
I wonder if there is a 1884 death record for mother Amy McCrae.

@althea, thank you so much for this info.

It is pos The Rev married again after the death of Catherine, yet I cannot find a marriage 1880-1884, pos in either NSW or NZ.

Hello, the Rev William McRae's first wife Catherine died in 1880.
I suppose Rev William McRae re-married soon after Catherine's death.

Wife number 2 died giving birth to Rose in 1884...pos in either Bathurst New South Wales or Waipu, Northland, New Zealand.

His second wife - name unknown - gave birth to a dau Rose Theresa McRae; the dau's death record says she was born 1884 Bathurst New South Wales.

Any ideas please.
Thanks,

Australia / Cannot find Marriage of Rev William McRae and his second wife
« on: Thursday 13 December 12 17:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I believe his first wife Catherine died in 1880.
1875 Catherine FINLAYSON married 8 Apr at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, Auckland, NZ to Rev William McRae, minister in Waipu.

I suppose Rev William McRae married soon after Catherine's death in 1880 and wife number 2 died giving birth to Rose in 1884...pos in either Bathurst New South Wales or Waipu, Northland, New Zealand.

His second wife - name unknown - gave birth to a dau Rose Theresa McRae; the dau's records [marriage cert and death cert] claim she was born 1884 Bathurst New South Wales.

Any ideas please.
Thanks,
