Trying to find present-day descendants of Claud and Veronica Hamilton of Rozelle House, Ayr, who both died in the 1950s.

thanks - I get confused! - especially when I had a frustrating email exchange on this subject with ScotlandsPeople, before they pointed me to the REgistrar General for Scotland.

Never used to be so complicated!

But still IRONIC that ScotlandsPeople are working on the early release of the English 1911 Census, when the Scottish 1911 census won't be released before the full 100 years!

Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Good News ! 1911 Census!

But NOT good news in Scotland, where the 1911 Census won't be available until 2012, and no FOI requests either. Ironic that Scotland Online will be responsible for for digitising all of the historical records in England and making them accessible, but NOT Scotland!

Scotland / Re: New Register House

No - I was told that the Deputy Registrar General (no less!) has decided that all certificates have to be sent in A4 envelopes. I was also told that I was the only person who had complained.

Scotland / New Register House
« on: Tuesday 13 March 07 17:57 GMT (UK)  »
I have been using the records at New Register House for over 30 years, and I think that Scotland's record system is one of the best in the world.

Recently I have had to make my first complaint, and have just sent my 3rd letter in a row about this complaint to Records Enterprise. Is anyone else disappointed that copy birth/marriage/death certificates ordered at NRH for posting out are no longer neatly folded, but entrusted to a flimsy A4 envelope, with no indication that the postman should not fold this?  I am told by Records Enterprise that their customer survey told them that people prefer this! So twice in a row, I have received documents which are crushed because the postman forced the envelope through the letter box.  I can't see the sense in putting a single document/sheet of A4 in an A4 envelope (except that it saves staff costs). Hardly good value for £8 a document.  Any thoughts?
