The Common Room / Re: ROGERS Charles
« on: Tuesday 09 July 24 12:32 BST (UK)  »
I've been playing around with Find my Past since receiving all the replies.
I think my big mistake was putting in Invercargill, New Zealand. When I left the town out the search I too only got one possible hit.
Thanks for getting back to me.
Muchly appreciated.

To all and everyone I say a massive big Thank you.
This is absolutely FANTASTIC!!!
I've searched and searched and searched.
Last count Find my Past gave me 16000 odd possible matches. I started trolling but it appeared all people were born in UK.
My filter of Charles being born 1869 Invercargill did nothing to reduce the hits.
What I'm doing wrong I've no idea.

Just a note that the Charles ROGERS and Constance MORTY marriage was 17 May 1906.

Thank you - yes the marriage was 1906. Slip of the fat fingers methinks. Sorry!

Charles ROGERS was born 1869 Invercargill, New Zealand
Went to South Africa before Boer War....before 1899
Married in Natal, South Africa in 1905 to Constance MORTY and
divorced - I'm told no record found
Left South Africa after WW1 for the UK
Remarried in UK - I know not where
Had two sons named Charles and Denis this could be in Wales or Cornwall
One son was deaf the other became a doctor
I've been so hoping the 1921 census would help me find this family for me.
Any help or suggestions would be fantastic

Amazing amount of help. Thank you.
I have ordered the marriage certificate as suggested and will get back to you all with that info.
Familysearch format has changed so much since I last used it ...I need to take a beginners course again.  :)

I am stuck with this family.

Sons as found on FreeBDM are Geoffrey Herbert York b 1916 and and Keith York b 1921. There should perhaps also be a daughter Elizabeth.

This must be Bernau, Brandenburg.
The small bit of info I have is from Brandenburg, Prussian Emigration Records.
It has August and Bertha with children
Frederich Wilhelm Franz WENDT (SCHMIDT) born 26 June 1847
Therese Elizabeth Bertha WENDT/SCHMIDT born 12 Mar 1849 Bernau,
August Robert Max SCHMIDT born 13. Jun 1853 Bernau,
Robert Wilhelm Heinrich SCHMIDT born 2 June 1855 Bernau,
Emilie Caroline Therese SCHMIDT born 31 July 1856 Bernau

I would dearly like to find birth/baptism records for the children and marriages for August and Bertha. I have the idea that August was stepfather to the two oldest children.
