I think Lisa Kudrow has always had the rights to WDYTYA are in the USA. I have been enjoying the US one’s learning more detail about American history. I am guessing these are abridged versions of the episodes.

Scotland / Rashida Jones WDYTYA

For some reason the American WDYTYA has appeared on my iplayer recommendations, so I have been working my way through them. Disappointingly no Scottish content, however. Just watched Rashida Jones daughter of Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton. Her grandmother although born in Dublin went to America from Glasgow and was staying at 89 Oxford Street, Glasgow. On the passenger list they showed I noticed the names next to her grandmother and great aunt. So thought I would share:

Sarah Bellesen from Cambuslang
Robert and Jeanie Russell from 1b Hozier Street, Coatbridge
William and Gwendoline Brown from 18 Melville Street, Falkirk
Catherine and Mary Shand from Maryhill, Glasgow
James and Mary Wallace from 22 Seamore Street, Glasgow

I think he is right though when he says it is a Welsh, Scottish, Irish,North of England thing (and no doubt many other places). As soon as I hear a Scottish accent, outwith Scotland I have to ask “where you from, at the same time trying to pinpoint where the accent is from. It is incredible how often you find that they know someone you know.

I presume Alexander is the one in the poor house however with the age being a bit out and him not being with his brothers there was just a bit of uncertainty. Not important.

Does it not say 32 for Williams death in 1877?

Thanks again, this has cleared a lot up. The 1851 census is still a bit of a mystery, with the whereabouts of Alexander but at least we have confirmed George, William and Alexander are brothers and survived childhood, went on to marry and had families.

We have not confirmed William’s parents are Andrew and Isobel Brown but it does look that way.

I had found the death of William Cowie, Sailmaker, at sea in 1890 but suspected this was George and Jane’s son as George was a a Sailmaker on the 1841 census, I think you have confirmed this.
