There is mention of the De La Poer's in the book 'The White Ship' by Charles Spencer (yes the Charles Spencer). He says that Roger of Salisbury was originally a village priest in the Church of Avranches near Caen, Normandy. He rose to become Henry's Chancellor and Bishop of Salisbury. Roger's 'mistress' was a lady by the name of Matilda de Ramsbury and it was their son who was known as Roger le Poer. I have copy documents of some land Ranulf de la Poer owned at Pinxton, Derbyshire in the 1220's, land which fell to his wife Denise (also known as Dionisia) after his death. In the 9th year of Henry III November The 29th, his son and heir was also Ranulf de la Poer, but he was only 9 years of age at that time. He inherited as he is mentioned again as holding Pinxton and Normanton in Derbyshire in 1272. Just thought you might be interested.
