Family History Beginners Board / Re: Bartholomew Downie

Wendy. I've just noticed your post on Bartholomew Downie.
In my tree I have Elizabeth Downie born about 1871 in the east end of Glasgow, probably Calton or around the High Street. Her parents were Thomas Downie born about 1835 and Mary Flynn born about 1836 , both in Ireland. Elizabeth married Bartholomew Collins and one of their children was called Bartholomew, born 1905 in Cumberland Street in the Gorbals in Glasgow. Is there a connection to you in this?

I'm extremely sorry at replying all these years later but this is due to my inability to understand how the site works. This is the first time I have seen your post. I've looked at your list of grave names and I see my family name - McMahon. If you could, it'd be great to know if you have Thomas McMahon who died in Dundonald Colliery in 1869. Hope I'm not too late.

Norrie, if it's not too much work, I'd be really grateful for a McMahon look up . My gg grandfather was Thomas McMahon who was killed in a mining accident in Lochgelly. Wonder if he's the one on your list.

Sorry I don't have enough info to make a comment on your mail. My McIntee name has not changed at all in the last 170 years. If I had a townland I could make a link with yours but so far I have nothing. Perhaps it will turn up one day.

Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction on this one?
I am researching the Heinz side of my family and the information I have about German origins is scant, and for me, very difficult to know how to find.

I have Frederick Heinz born 1838 in Nassau. He was in Glasgow Scotland in the mid 1850s with a group of other German families all at the one address, so presumably connected in some way.

On his marriage certificate his profession was musician and so were some of the others Heinz member I have come across in Scotland in the ssame period.

The 1861 census in Glasgow states that at the address with Fred Heinz    there  were:

Marian? (looks like) Heinz aged 31 married  dressmaker Germany Nassau

Paul (might be ) Kramer lodger unmarried 21  blacksmith Germany Nassau

All  the Germans in this group are probably known to each other as they come from the same place. Possibly Marian is Friedrich Heinz's  sister in law.

Fred Heinz's father father was Johan Heinz and his mother Katerina Debrig (that's what it looks like to me). The census taker was Scottish and obviously would have written what he heard although .

Also in the next house there was  Philip Meier (probably Myer/Meyer) who was 32 and an iron foundry labourer from Nassau in Germany. He was with his wife Mary aged 35 and also from Nassau. The children were, Konrad aged 6 a scholar and born in Glasgow like his sister Mary aged 4 and his brother Philip aged 2.

Also in the house was William Heinz a bricklayer labourer from Nassau  and also another lodger Nasdaur? Diekle? a 31 year old unmarried lodger who worked as an iron foundry labourer and he was from Darmstatt.
Is there anyway I can find my way back to Frederick Heinz's place of origin and discover more about his family? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BeeGee

I noticed you were searching Frederick Hynds who was born in Germany. I am searching him too. My email is (*) if you wish to discuss the family. I am very interested in your connection.

Thank you very much Cristopher for your advice. You're right I'll have to go to the Church registers for any info on my McIntees (who were Catholics) born or married before 1864. That's going to be a long haul! I shall persevere!!

Here are some of the details of my McIntees. If anyone can put me in the direction of a townland, I'd be eternally grateful! The earliest I have is my ggg grandparents -

Philip McIntee = Rose Reilly
b 1780s Cavan

Daniel McIntee = Ann Murray
b 1806? Cavan    b1816? Cavan
d Glasgow 1871 princes st  - east end
Sibling: Rose ann McIntee b 1820 = Owen Mc Ginn (Cavan)

Patrick McIntee = Catherine Kelly
b 1834 Cavan       b 1834 Cavan Maghera
d 1877 glasgow
siblings: Roseanne b 1835 cavan/Ann b1838 cavan/ MAry b ? cavan/ Michael b?

They were all in Glasgow round about 1840. I suppose the Great Hunger brought them over.

I have more but I just can't make any headway on townland of origin. So, I'd love some help!
