I now have found the area where the Lessig family were in 1943. At the time of her death Martha Lessig (nee Munzer) was in Bertelsdorf (Berthelsdorf), which is in East Germany so fits with what we already know.

There is also family rumour that the Munzers had Jewish blood.

since postin that thread i have found out he was Richard Alfred but went by the name of Alfred and have obtained his death cert but still only says germany.

please can sks help me find out where i can find out where my grandfather was from . all i know is that he was a german pow at Tower farm Odder in ww2 . he then went to work on Orchard farm Saxilby where he met my grand mother. all i am being told from various people is that he is from East Germany. His name is Richard Alfed Lessig born 23rd december 1911. And died 23 october 1980 in saxilby.  I also know he was married before and had a son in germany. I also know his mother was Martha Lessig nee Munzer born in 1886  and died in 1943 aged 57

hi can anyone help please !! i am looking for a friends grandfather alfred lessig . she doesnt no his rank or reg all she knows is that he was born in germany and was a prisoner of war in this country , he was sent  to work on orchard farm saxilby lincs where he met ant later married her grandmother lucy. we would like to know how you find out more about him like what he did in the army and his rank aand hopefully where abouts he was from . we think he was born in oct 1915
