Sorry, should have mentioned that the source of information re George and Christine was a family member's memory.  I have no specifics beyond that.  I'll keep digging as you suggest...Thanks again

Many thanks to CaroleW and wozzle for putting me back on track faster than the proverbial speeding bullet!  Made my day!

Without trying to push my luck, can you find two other missing members of the same name and age group, please...

George Hodder and sister Christine Hodder ( later married to Hanson) born about the same time but not necessarily to George W's and Albert L's families.  Sorry to be so vague.

Thanks again,
Geoff

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re Hodder Families

Looking for the children of two Hodder families:

Albert Llewellyn Hodder (b. 1873, Hereford) married Mary Ann E Taylor, Aston, Birmingham, 1900

and

George W Hodder (b.1877, Oswestry, Shropshire) married Mary J Russell, Aston Birmingham, 1895.

No idea where to look next.  Would appreciate any help...thank you.

Hi Nick:  Oops! might not be cousins after all.  At first, I had George married to Mary Ann Wellman but the dates were not consistent with other family members.  You might like to look at another thread on RootsChat  "Chard Lookup - George Hodder" to see how things worked out.

My grandfather was Walter Henry Hodder (b.1879, Oswestry) married to Florence Caroline Kent 1900.  My father was Walter William Hodder (b.1900) married to Gladys Ada.

As you can see, that makes me just a little bit older than you are.

I still have to confirm some of my events and dates but the overall fit seems very good.

By the way, this might help...my father was an only child.  He had several uncles/aunts: Albert Llewellyn 1873; George W 1877; Lillian G 1884; Mabel L 1886; Charles Frederick 1888.  Do these match?

I enjoy this part of family history...sorting out the blanks.  Never can tell where it leads.

Lets keep trying.

Geoff.

Hi Nick...good to hear from you.  Welcome to RootsChat. I think most of my (our?) Albert's background is already posted in this string.  Does your family background fit in with mine?  His parents were George Hodder and Mary Anne Singleton who married 28 February 1835, in Winsham, Chard, Somerset.  They seem to have raised there own football team  (10 kids!)
Let me know if our details are similar. It will be interesting to see how we are connected.  We could be second cousins (or second cousins once removed depending on your relationship to Albert.)

I am always amazed at what the other members of RootsChat can come up with when I send in my questions.  As you can see, the details are fantastic.

By the way, I'm in Canada...where in the world are you?

Looking forward to your reply,

Geoff Hodder

Thank you Mum44, Heywood, Dave, Suz and Wendy.  The timeframe of Albert's death has now narrowed to 1901-1912 which should make newspaper searches a bit easier (if I can figure out how to do that online!)  Thanks also for the newspaper sources and the super-quick turnaround.  If I make any more progress I'll post again.

Happy Easter...

Geoff

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Looking for Death of Albert Hodder between 1895 - 1909
« on: Thursday 20 March 08 23:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi;  Looking for death of Albert Hodder, printer's compositor. Died between 1895 -1909 believed near Bradford. He was born 1852, Chard, Somerset. Married to Elizabeth Lucretia Lucas, 1872, Hereford.   They had six children: Albert Llewellyn, Clara, George,Walter,Lilian,Mabel and Charles.

Accidental death reported in (unknown) newspaper "due to falling from rocking chair after drinking beer." (News clipping contains neither date nor name of newspaper.  Poor GGrandpa...what a way to go!)

Would appreciate any help re: dates and sources of newspaper archives...thank you,

Geoff

Hi, Mudge:  Don't know what happened but notification of your last post to me was received, but couldn't find it on the website.  Suddenly it popped up in the "send a message" window!  Anyway, thanks for the advice and the restored photograph.  Looks like I have some work to do....
