Nottinghamshire / Re: Benjamin Armstrong born Mansfield Query

Many thanks. I've got a lot of info on the Armstrongs who were Calais merchants from Tweedale who moved to Corby Glen in the 16th C, plus some who were connected to Wysall Church & Rempstone in the 16th & 17th. There's a 14th C tomb of an Armstrong, too. Two held the manor of Thorpe in the county.

I'll take a look at the ones you've mentioned.

Cheers,

Bob

Thanks, Kay. It seems there were a lot of new buildings, using stone, being built in Nottingham in the 18th century, so perhaps folk from the N E of England and the Scottish border counties came south.

Many thanks, everyone!
I'm wondering if they came down from Durham due to coal mining or quarry mining?

Nottinghamshire / Benjamin Armstrong born Mansfield Query
« on: Friday 07 November 25 08:48 GMT (UK)  »
Benjamin Armstrong was born in Mansfield in about 1824, possibly baptised Nov 1826.  He wed a Jemima Dodsley. I think Benjamin's  father was named William, probably from Nottinghamshire. Does anyone know William's birthplace & year? I'm keen to find their pre-Nottinghamshire roots.
Cheers,
Bob.

Many thanks for the RPS link. I recall I listed all the Armstrongs found on it some time ago - a labour of love!
