New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Holton marriages in NZ - Wellington?
« on: Friday 13 July 12 13:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi syd500,
Sorry don't think I can be any help finding Sarah. As I said she wasn't even mentioned as a spouse on Bernard's death certificate. My father remembers Bernard but was amazed when we found out he was married. He always knew him as a single man. Maybe get a copy of the Sarah Holton's death certificate mentioned in an earlier post or check for divorce records in NSW Archives? We only knew Bernard in Sydney or travelling on ships as a companion back home to England.
Good luck

Hi DebNZ,
Sorry I have just found these questions about Bernard. He was my g/fathers uncle & was the Bernard George who died in Sydney, NSW on 16-8-1954. He and Sarah were divorced & I believe there were no children. They may have divorced in NZ not too long after they married - so there is a good chance she remarried. Bernard & his brothers globe trotted between NZ, Australia, South Africa & England - where they still had a brother & sister. Bernard often travelled as a companion to elderly travelers on ships crossing between Australia & England.
Sorry I have no other info on Sarah. She was not even mentioned on his death certificate.

Hi Ratinexile,
Welcome to Rootschat  ;)
Yes my line is Robert b 1818 - the christening records are too faint to read the date but he is definitely the son of Samuel & Elizabeth Purser. I am descended from Robert & Harriet's daughter Emma born 1847. Will be happy to share info.
Regards

There is also The Ryerson Index, which is a listing of newspaper death notices & obituaries. It covers most of NSW & some other states papers as well. Worth a look.

Hi Bren,
Horace Montague Cross was the son of James Smith Cross jnr & Elizabeth Ann Askew, born 19/5/1881 in Nelson. The family moved to Wellington. Horace's sister Beatrice Louise Cross is my g/g/mother. I have a photo of a young Beatrice & a young boy who I believe might be Horace,

Thanks Bren,
It must be one of the world wars that he was killed in then. Family lore states he died 'At War'. I will have to keep searching for him.

Thank you both Bren & Riley,
Yes  I was able to access the file from the link. Unfortunately it didn't tell me if Horace Montague CROSS was killed in South Africa, just that he was missing in 1902, but gave me that much info anyway. Thanks for your help
Cheers

1903 Roll at Gympie, Wide Bay lists his parents with 2 possible older sisters? He would only be 16 & too young to enrol.
DIXON:
Elizabeth Alice Young St  domestic duties
Elise Jane Young St  nurse
Joseph Chapman Young St Boot machinist
Olive Alice Young St shop assistant.
