Suz,
That would be wonderful, thank you so much.  James was older than we thought-Mom said he and her father were close in age.  I think that there was also another sister-Charlotte-she was much older as her daughter was born only a few years after my grandfather-which confuses things.
Thanks again,
Peg

This is probably him-I am told that there were 2 James Maguire's the first died as an infant and then another sibling was named James.  Kind of weird to be named the same as a deceased brother don't you think.  I am trying to get this information for my mother-she turns 80 this year-a very good 80, but she was never able to forget about her father talking about his brother-another cousin of hers who is even older never even heard of James-everyone else moved and left him behind..
Thanks, I will send for the certificate to see what it says

Durham Lookup Requests / James Maguire
« on: Monday 26 March 07 07:16 BST (UK)  »
I am seeking information on my gr uncle=James Maguire b. 1894?? brother of my grandfather Peter Maguire b 1896 in South Shields-parents were James and Margaret Doherty Maguire. other siblings-Mary Ellen m Hugh Egan and Ann-m ?? Miller, then Norman Crotzer.  Peter, his mother Margaret, sister Ann imm to the USA in 1922, his sister Mary Ellen Egan, husb Hugh, dtrs Annie and Margaret imm with my grandmother Edith Dick-in 1923,  Edith and Peter were married in NY as soon as she got here.  James m a Lily Simpson about 1915, had 3 children, John, and 2 girls-perhaps Lola and ??-all born before 1920-one had a birthdate of May 4(same as mine)  He lived in Sunderland and was a police officer there.  My grandparents, and my mother Margaret returned in 1936, my grandfather went to the police station in Sunderland and tried to find his brother-all they could or would tell him was that he was no longer there.  They returned to the United States and he was never able to find James-despite other family members-cousins still in England seeking him.  It was thought that he went to London??  Any ideas-my Mother-still wonders what ever happened to the uncle she never met, and we would like to make contact if there is any family.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Lighter Side / Re: Genes Reunited
« on: Saturday 24 March 07 04:31 GMT (UK)  »
I found Genes Reunited by accident-and was just doing a search of names similar to what I was looking for.  Messaged several people who had surnames similar, and the reply-the very next day gave me shivers- I have kept his email-telling me of out relation, his family never knew what had happened to the relatives that went to AMERICA, they never kept in contact.   The feeling of elation was overwhelming-finally a breakthrough.  I cannot say enough about this site, it provided me with information I had previously not been able to find-as well as relatives I did not know existed,  I will never forget "I am Roseanna Austin's Great grandson...."  For those who have had such a breakthrough I do not have to say more-for those of you who have not, it is an unbelievable feeling of connection.

Erin,
Thanks for the info-all I know is info from Margaret Austin's death certificate-stated that her father was James-an amry pensioner.  I have found no other mention of him, or any other siblings of Margaret-Margaret m Thomas Austin-and imm from Ireland to Cheshire, England-always was told that they came from County Cork-it I must now revise and look at Carlow.
Regards,
Peg

Mary, could you tell me how to get to the site you found the this information-I had a link to it-but it tells me that it no longer exists.  The names of the children with their dob seem like my austin/doolan (dowling, dooley)  William was my ggrandfather.
Thanks so much, Peg
