Midlothian / Re: James Drummond SHIELS/Agnes CAMPBELL
« on: Wednesday 24 February 10 14:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Melinhen, thanks for getting in touch.

I have a wealth of information on the Shiels family and am quite happy to share it with you.  However, there does appear to be a problem concerning Agnes Drummond SHIELS parents.

I have Agnes as having been born 06 Feb 1921 at 73 York Drive, Hillhead, Glasgow.

Her parents were Albert Arthur Drummond SHIELS (born 03 Jul 1890 at 53 Nelson Street, Glasgow and died 1947 in California USA) and Margaret Dawson J CLARK (born 31 Jul 1888 at Wishaw, Lanarkshire and died 05 Dec 1960 at San Mateo, California USA)  The couple were married 24 Dec 1915 at Thornhill, Wishaw, Lanarkshire.  Albert's occupation was Doctor of Chiropractor and this is bourne out by the inscription on the family grave in Edinburgh.

Albert's parents were James Drummond SHIELS (born 18 Aug 1852 at 2 Haugh Street, Edinburgh and died 12 Oct 1915 at 22 Forbes Road, Edinburgh) and Agnes CAMPBELL (born 15 May 1853 at 40 Cumberland Street, Edinburgh and died 04 Mar 1910 at 13 Cumin Place, Edinburgh).  James's occupation was photographer.

I have other information and photographs if you wish to contact me on
*

Incidentally you are 2nd cousin to my wife.

Hope to hear from you

John

Thanks Monica

I believe that James's parents were Thomas Shiels and Euphemia Jupta but don't take this information as gospel.  No dates for either.  No information on Agnes's parents I'm afraid.

Midlothian / James Drummond SHIELS/Agnes CAMPBELL

I am researching the family and ancestors of the above.  James was born abt 1852 and the couple married in Edinburgh on 28 July 1876.  James died in Edinburgh on 12 October 1915.  By trade he was a Lithographer and Photographer.

One of their children, Thomas, was later to become a Photographer, Doctor of Medicine and Member of Parliament for East Edinburgh before becoming Sir Thomas Drummond Shiels.  He was the maternal Grandfather of my wife.

Any information about the family or ancestors of James and Agnes will be most gratefully recieved.
