Hi , I was wondering if someone could help me please with the ancestry of my 3GGF Charles Howell B1848 D1881
He married Charlotte Yates B1850 D1915 on 26/06/1871 in Cobridge, Christ Church, Staffordshire, England and had 3 children ; Thomas , Kezia ( My 2GGM ) & Charles .

A distant relative of mine gave me some information from an old diary of his great-grandfathers ( Kezia's son John Tunstall ) which read ; ........  my mothers father was Charles ( B1848  ) , his parents came from North Wales . His grandfather was sent to prison for being a Quaker .......Charles was killed in 1881 at The Kings Arms , broad Street in Hanley , Staffordshire . After that Charlotte married William Poole ........ Mother told me that the Howells were a rich family who owned a small village in North Wales ......

I have found this Charles Born about 1848
Charles Howell bpt 5 Mar 1848 Tunstall (near Stoke-upon-Trent), Stafford
son of Charles & Mary Howell

I cannot be sure which Charles Howell is on the 1851 census but I think I have found them on the 1861 Census

RG9/1929/75 p2 Burslem
Charles Howell Head 41       Salop , Ellesmere , Shropshire
Mary Howell wife 36 b Cockshutt , Shropshire
Edward Howell 15  b  Burslem
Charles Howell son 9 b Burslem
Richard Howell   3  b Tunstall
Harriet Howell  8/12 b   Burslem
Richard Turner   21         Salop , Ruewood , Shropshire

I am still struggling to find the surname of Charles wife Mary , is it this one ?

Charles Howells Dec qtr 1844 Wem RD Shropshire
Volume   18 Page   287

then I searched UKBMD  and this came up for HOWELLS

HOWELLS   Charles   WILLIAMS   1848   Tunstall   Staffordshire   Stoke-On-Trent   TUN/011/060

I think this is the one that matches the most .... what do you think ?

If so where do I go from here as I keep hitting a brick wall

Thanks for your time

The Common Room / Brick Wall - Look up please help
« on: Wednesday 05 March 25 17:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All ,

I am looking for some help tracing my Irish 5GGF Michael Cloney's parents .
I have been searching for 10 years + but to no avail .
He was born in 1773 approx in County Wicklow but emigrated to Rolling Damm , Canada
He married Mary Kavanagh B1773c and had several children .

My 4GGF was John Cloney B1812 Portrushen Rathvilly, Co, Wicklow, Carlow, Ireland
He married Winifred Kennedy B1811 in 1837 at Rathvilly .
They had 3 children ; Mary , Michael & John and emigrated to Wolstanton , Stoke-on-Trent , Staffs , Eng , UK .

I am not really sure that Michael is John's father but according to John & Winifred's marriage information ; the witnesses were Hana  Curtis  ( John's sister ) and Pat Kavanagh ( His mother's brother ) .

Please can someone help me break this brick wall down

Thank you in advance

Hi ,

I was wondering if anyone can help please ? I am still trying to find my 5GGF

My 4GGF John CLONEY ( B 1812 in Portrushen , D 1880 in Staffordshire UK ) .
He married Winfred KENNEDY (B 1811 in Tynock, Kiltegan, Wicklow, Ireland , D 1890 in Staffs , Eng , UK ) in 1837 and had 2 children in Ireland before moving to Staffordshire in the 1850s and having a 3rd child . I'm assuming they came over because of the potato famine but Im not sure .
Anyway my brick wall come here ; I have found who I think was John CLONEYs father but Im not sure . I think it was Michael CLONEY ( B 1773 in Rathvilly , D 1851 in Canada ) . The reason why I think this is because on John Cloneys and Winifred's marriage banns it mentions a name Hanna Curtis who I think is John's sister .

Anyone else think this or am I barking up the wrong tree ?

Hi ,
I was wondering if anyone knew where Cloney Castle used to be in Cloney , Kildare ?
Has anyone ever seen a photo of it ?
I believe it is just farmland now but seen the graveyard is still there .

If anyone has any photos or knows where I can find any info on the castle it would be very much appreciated

Thank you
