Yes Lavinia was his widow, she did die in 1957 aged 90. My mum refers to her as granny.

Thomas Edwin Horton (called Edwin) had a son, called Edwin. (He was born Edwin Dann as Lavinia and Thos Edwin didn't get married until the boy was 4).

By the time Uncle Ted died (boy Edwin) the family were living at Audley End, Leicester. Uncle Ted's death was tragic on that he was giving his young nephew, Brian, a lift on his pedal bike and, it's believed, the nephew's sandal got stuck in the spokes causing them both to fall from the bike.

A shoeless little boy ran home and uncle Ted was found on the pavement with a head injury, it was a fractured skull. He died from his  injuries.

I have now bought Thomas Edwins death certificate.

Thanks Ashtone, I don't think that will be him. His sister was born in 1857, he was said to be born in 1861, it fairly consistent through the records.

I've now got it up on Ancestry. Its also triggered a memory of my Nana saying when she was born her grandfather died. Nana was born at the end 1920, so this rings true.

It leaves me with questions as to why when the sons wrote home during WW1, they only addressed their mum as Mrs, E Horton. The 1921 census was taken in the month of June, so I guess he could have just died.

I have been researching for many years, but I cannot find a death registration for my 2x great grandfather, Thomas Edwin Horton, he was know as Edwin.

Born January 1861 in Saddington
Married October 1890 to Lavinia Dann in Cosby
Had 5 children I've found 4, 1 child died) Edwin (Dann - later Horton), Dora, Harold and Olga.

1901 census they are living at Clarendon Park Road, Leicester, formerly Knighton
1911 census they are living at Mill St. Leicester
1921 Lavinia is listed as a widow (her son completed the census).

Thomas Edwin Horton was the son of a Saddington landowner. He got the maid pregnant and against his father's wishes, married her when his son was 4 years old. His father disinherited him.

I believe Thomas Edwin was a spendthrift. On the death of his uncle (father's brother) he inherited a tidy sum, but the will shows the uncle had left instructions to clear his nephew's debts, once cleared there wasn't much left.
During WW1 the sons write postcards to Mrs E Horton (so to their mum, not both parents), despite having a rough idea of when he must have died, I cannot find any records.

Lavinia could write, but all of her children could.

Please can anyone help, or advise?

Good evening,

My 3x gt grandad, came from Italy. He arrived here sometime before 1836, when he married his Irish bride in St. Nicholas' Church in Liverpool. I have not found any records for when/how he arrived.

I cannot get beyond his birth in Italy (Lucca, possibly a surrounding area) and many of the records in Lucca, around this time, have large gaps.

My current question, in a bid to find anything out about his family is:

If Giovanni BINI (John Beney 1851 census) became a Br. Sub (British Subject), what would this involve and can I get details of how he came a British subject? I'm ideally hoping to find father's name, village/town of birth and anything else?
