Can anyone help me find ALAN DAVENPORT FROST in the 1911 Census.  I am guessing his surname has been mistranscribed.
He was born 4th April, 1905 in Withington Manchester.
Father William Frost
Mother Sarah Annie Sherlock.

There is a suggestion in the family that he was brought up by an aunt but I can find no record of this.
Would be grateful for any help with this. Donut

The Common Room / Does this signify Adoption??
« on: Wednesday 25 December 13 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone could advise me regarding the following.
I am researching a family in which several names appear for the mother on a birth certificate.  Could anyone suggest an explanation.

(I have not listed the actual names because of the element of adoption)

I have a birth certificate for Mary Smith on which her mother is listed as "Kathleen Brown, formerly Jones , otherwise Long.

It is this phrase, "otherwise Long" that I don't understand.

On Kathleen Brown's marriage certificate to Arthur Smith she gives her maiden name as Jones and her father is listed as Fred Jones.  She is "a Spinster."   I am assuming from this that she is neither a widow or a divorcee.  The only other explanation I can think of is that she was born Long but was then adopted by the Jones family. Is that likely?

Is it possible to investigate an adoption which would have taken place in approx 1910.  (Kathleen died in 1948)
I should be grateful for any advice. Tunod

Just to clarify things, do you mean that Alan Davenport Frost arrived in Brazil in 1905 with his parents or that at some time in his life he told Brazil immigration that his birth was 1905 and that his parents were named William and Margaret?.  If the latter could you tell me when he was in Brazil.
Many thanks for your help

This is a very elusive gentleman.  I believe he was born on 4th April 1904, though his birth was not registered until May 1905.  He had a brother William Derek and a sister Irene and a sister Colina. No other member of the family has the name Davenport.

I believe his father's name was William and his mother may have been Sarah Annie Sherlock.

Family history relates he was raised by an aunt. I can find no mention for him or his family in 1911 UK Census and the family believe he travelled to the US at some time in his life.

Would  be grateful if anyone could tell me if the family was in the US at the time of the 1911 Census.
Many thanks for any help.
Kind regards tunod

Can anyone help.
I am looking at two people in the 1891 Census in Birkenhead.
One lived in Market Street and one lived in Sussex Street.
On Ancestry the ref at the base of the page for the person living in Market Street is RG12/2879
the ref for the person living in Sussex Street is RG12 2883.

Would this indicate that these two streets were not too far from each other.
Grateful for any guidance.

Thanks for the info but haven't been able to progress.   Have looked through these families and sadly can find no connection.  Its as if she just "appeared " at the time of her marriage. Donut
