Scotland / 1871 scotland census look up please
« on: Wednesday 18 April 12 20:13 BST (UK)  »

please can anyone do a 1871 scotland census look up, i have traced this family right to their deaths etc in london and i am sure these are my people.

strangely there is never a husband/father listed on any census or any occupations, but emma thompson has another 3 children after this, perhaps he is listed on the page before ?

caroline has somersetshire as birth, please double check, i would be so grateful
I unearthed this from uk records but cant view original

many thanks

Emma Thomson, 27, head
Kate Thompson, 5, daughter
Caroline Thompson, 2, daughter b. Somersetshire
Address: 10 xxxx, Edinbugh St Andrews

thanks lynne

we know nothing about where or names, all that has been revealed is that grandad was in the 8th army (desert rat) and that the son was born around 1943/44,  but grandad returned home in 47 (already married to nan and had 2 children)and never went back on service, as far as anyone is aware the son never came here but who knows...
i think i should get the service records to see if it gives a location where he was stationed.

many thanks again

hi

through an elderly rellie i have discovered that my grandfather fathered a son in italy during ww2, she knows he was registered in my grandfathers name but has no idea where or even a name.

can anyone recommend a place to start for italian births or would it be more simple to obtain his services records to see where he was stationed and go from there ?

here's hoping..

hi

apparently another rellie has gone down this root of elimination and print connection and came up with

RG12/211  1891
178 drury lane, london
william is here with sister kate and BiL henry john Mckerley and family, william is a binders lab and henry is a print compositor. no mother listed
william born liverpool in 1873

1881    RG11/131
24 grafton st, st anne, soho, london
emily -wife/marr -born halifax, yorkshire
kate born halifax, yorkshire 1867
william 1874 - liverpool

1871 scotland census

emma - born 1844 halifax, yorkshire - agents wife
kate - born 1866 halifax, yorkshire
caroline - born 1869, somersetshire

so a father never appears on a census

rellie is in possesion of marriage cert for kate and henry MCKENZIE, this gives address as carnaby st, london and FATHER as WILLIAM (deceased) occupation - traveller

and a death cert for emma thompson, she dies in endell st workhouse infirmary in 1890 her address is 178 drury lane, london - informant was workhouse

so where william snr and caroline ended up i know not..... :'(

there is only 1 kate thompson birth for 1867, halifax but the cert reveals mother emma but father james and she can be traced right through, so wrong kate.
william, scholar born liverpool 1873

thank you for looking hibee

its all so confusing, i was hoping william was there somewhere.

i have emma and kate born halifax, yorkshire but does the transcription say that caroline is 2 and born in somersetshire ? because on the 1881 census the family are living in london again william (father) is not there but another son william has appeared and born in liverpool and no trace at all of caroline  ???

many thanks again

oh gosh, you lot are so quick replying, i expected to wait days, so thank you for taking an interest.

yes the tree on ancestry is mine and we have the other foulcer siblings pretty much wrapped up.

we have the birth certs for william and roses children and marriage certs for roses siblings.

the 1911 says they have been married 15 years, had 8 children, 7 alive (+2 born after census)
the birthdate for rose is exact as are the childrens, so i am supposing that williams is as well

as there are several williams from liverpool/london i need the marriage to track him down.

The only other clue we have is that rose caroline died in 1936 and it was rumoured that william married again and lost contact with his family from there, i have him on the electoral rolls 1911 up until 1939 and he remained in the same house all the time, but after the war there is no trace of him, we know that half of the park road he lived in was destroyed by ww2 bombing and the electoral rolls confirm that the houses no longer exist.
on his youngest sons enlistment papers, he state william as his father and next of kin, this was 1941 but it says william lives in edmonton, i have checked the rolls but no trace there before or after the war and i have not been able to determine a death entry - we do know for certain that he survived the war and worked in the woolwich arsenal.

hi all

please can anyone offer any help or suggestions for finding a marriage between william herbert thompson and rose caroline louisa foulcer - the first child is born in 1897 in st annes, london and the last in 1914 west ham.

in 1901 census william is listed as born 1873, st giles london, but the 1911 gives him 1873 born liverpool, so without this marriage cert, my search for his background seems futile - both census have occupation as printer

i seem to be going round and round in circles with this one  ???

the name foulcer is often badly transcribed, foulcer/foulser/fowlser/falser/... but i cant even seem to find a thompson marriage with any remotely possible matches.

please help
