Armagh / Marriage of Jane Winter and Joshua Fleming 1834.
« on: Friday 28 October 16 17:08 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping for some information on my relative, Joshua Fleming Born 1808c Died 1893, Portadown, County Armagh. I have researched him back to his wedding to Jane Winter, 11 Sept 1834, Drumannan/Drumherit/Drumherrif?? at Tartaraghan Church. I have researched all Internet sites and I am left with this wedding date, just wondering if anyone could help with information about either Joshua or Jane's parents or any information on the wedding details, what parish they were living at the time.

Hello Alex,
Yes you are correct, the James Hay I mentioned and your Catherine Hay are brother and sister, James Hay married a Mary Ann Summers in 1883 in St. James' Church, Cruden, she was a servant in one of the Hay's houses in the 1881 census, and then later on they were living in Pleasant Cottages where my Grandmother was born, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, if I can help with any other information about the Whinnyfold clan let me know and I will answer more promptly.

Yours
Don

Scotland / Adoption around 1842 in Scotland
« on: Friday 09 February 07 10:47 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for information on a John Edgar born around 1835(Girvan, Ayr), birthplace info from a later census.
I cant find his birth? Looking in the 1841 census there is a John Edgar living with a family in Kilmarnock, head of the family is an Ambrose Cuthbertson age 40, with a John Edgar aged 6 years old.
I suspect that John Edgar was adopted by this family in about 1842(it shows a birth for this family for a John in 1842 on the IGI living in Edinburgh). The family all came from Ayrshire. Is there anywhere that any information on adoption is kept, I checked for a birth on Scotlands people for 1842 and it show nothing for that family. This is causing great confusion in my family search as the names Edgar/Cuthbertson surnames have been swapped around at different times.
Any help on adoption information would be greatly appreciated

Dublin / Re: John Cuthbertson Edgar 1866c Ireland?
« on: Sunday 19 November 06 14:28 GMT (UK)  »
Now I understand how difficult it has been to trace the Edgar family, they
keep mixing their surname with their middle names, they did the same
in the 1891 census in Renfrew, Scotland. The only other bit of information
I have is that John and his father were both employed as Railway Wagon
Examiner/Inspectors. I would like to thank you very much for your help, I have
been struggling for years to find anything about my earlier Edgar's, at least
now I know where to look. thanks again.
