Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Woodhouse Cemetery Leeds

Hi All,
Just sitting here browsing on a miserable afternoon and what do I find?  A brilliant link from Crumblie to the index of burials at Woodhouse, Leeds. :D
My great grandparents, Emily (Lapish) and Thomas Walker had, according to the 1911 census, 9 children of whom 3 had died. I had only found 8, until today! I had suspected that the missing one was the first born and now that has been confirmed. The poor mite died aged 7 weeks soon after her parents marriage. Thank you.

Again, thank you all for your help. Although not my direct line, I just got curious when I read "Drowned in River", just had to follow it up! :)

Wow, thank you all so much  :D  It did sound strange that the death was accidental drowning, odd the coroner's notebook didn't give more details. I would not have thought to look in Middlesbrough papers for a report.

I'm pretty sure the lad survived, it was certainly Hannah who died then, and I have both boys on the 1901 census.

Rootschatters are marvellous, thank you again.

Hannah was my grandmother's cousin and she was born in c 1867. In 1892 she married William Stockdale Warey at St Gabriel's church, Toxteth.  They had 2 children, Roy and William.

Hannah died in 1899 in Brotherton and the Parish records for St Edward the Confessor note that she was buried 4th June 1899 and a small note adds "Drowned in river". An inquest reported in Wakefield Charities Coroner's Notebook states "drowned by accident in river Aire." The GRO district was Pontefract.

I just wondered if anyone could perhaps see if there were any reports in local newspapers? I'm not sure where I should look.

Here's hoping!

Kent Lookup Requests / William Stockdale Warey

William was my grandfather's uncle and though I have traced him from Whitehaven to Liverpool to Bradford, I don't quite know why he was in Kent at the time of his death, except that he had been a Master Mariner all his life.
He died age 66 at 37 West Hill, Dartford and was buries in a Cemetery at Brook Street. He had been married at least twice, once in Liverpool and once in Bradford, Yorks., and each of his wives were his first cousins. His second marriage was in 1910.
I wondered if some kind person may have access to local newspapers to see if there was a death notice or obituary?
Here's Hoping ;)

Good Morning Kay,
Thank you so much for your post.  I was thinking Woodland Grove was a road of houses / cottages, not a small group of cottages almost in the middle of nowhere! Those links are brilliant.
We are hoping to have a trip to the area soon and so now, hopefully, I may be able to get a feel for the area.
Thank you again.

Cumberland / Broughton/Ireleth/Kirkby

Hi there,
I wonder if some kind person could maybe help me with some geography? Never a strong point for me  ???

When my gr grandmother Margaret Ann Hanvey died, aged 65, on 24 Mar 1915, although she had lived in Whitehaven all her life, the address was given as Woodland Grove, Kirkby R.D., Sub-district of West Broughton. This address was where her daughter's  mother-in-law (Sarah Tyson) lived at the time of the 1911 Census. I am guessing perhaps she was visiting?
Does this Woodland Grove still exist?
Sarah and Robert Tyson at one time lived at Woodland Station, which I have found photos of, but they are not really my direct line.
Putting various versions of Woodland Grove in search engines I have been given Kirkby / West Broughton and Kirby Ireleth.
Are all these one and the same place or area?
Being here in West Yorkshire I would really like to try and find the place where Margaret Ann died and maybe even find if and where she was buried.

Here's hoping :)

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: VARLEY and PICKLES families of Wilsden
« on: Sunday 14 February 16 19:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Peter,

I have lots and lots of Varley ancestors in Wilsden :D

At one time I was in touch with 3 other people who also had Varley ancestors in the village and we could not connect any of them :(

Most of my branch lived at the top of the village in the Ling Bob / Laneside area, however I have not found any connection to the Pickles family. William born 1798, was my gr gr grandfather and I have been able to account for most of his offspring and there is no James.
