Hello Willow,

Thank you for your reply.  I will do as you suggest and apply for the marriage certificate of Daniel and Elizabeth.

As soon as I get the details from this I will let you know.

Again many thanks for your help.  I think the people who use Roots Chat are amongst the most helpful people there are.

Best Wishes
Stringfellow

Many thanks Willow and Donna.  You have both been very busy and I am very grateful.  Perhaps I have got the wrong William and Ann on the 1841 Census.

I took the information from a 'tree' sent to me by a relative researching the KENDRICK side of the family. e.g.
Daniel Gauden b.1841 and Elizabeth b.1845 had:-
Daniel  1869; Mary Ann 1871;
Elizabeth  1872 - m.  James Kendrick b.1867
Alice b. 1873  d.1947 m. Joseph Heathcock at St.Mark's Ch.Stambermill in 1903 (I'm also trying to trace details of a Tommy Forrest they adopted, but who died when he was about 13yrs.)
James  1876; Emma 1878;
William 1879 m. Amelia Stafford
Thomas  1883  m. Sarah Watteson Knowles b.1884 they married on 21st.February 1909 at St.Mark's Ch. Stambermill. (these are my maternal grandparents)
Anne  1884

I think I shall have to get certificates to make sure I have got the right family - it is so easy to get sidetracked when dates appear to 'fit'.

Again my thanks to you both and if there is anyone out there who recognizes any of the above names I would be pleased to hear from you.

Is anyone researching this family please?

My Gr.Gr. Grandparents William Gauden b. 1821 (Worcs.)
Ann Gauden (maiden name unknown) b.1821
                                       died 1870 (Stourbridge,  6c. 89  2nd quarter)
possibly married in Oldswinford.

The 1841 census shows them with one son Daniel, 5 months, living at Engine Lane, Oldwinford, Worcs.

(don't have access to 1851 census)

The 1861 census shows an Ann Gauden b.1821 with a Samuel Gauden and several children (no Daniel)  living at Waste, Lye.

Is this another family?  How can I check?

William and Ann  did have a son Daniel b. 1841 who married Elizabeth (nee Pargeter) born 1845. Lived at Stambermill Road, Lye. (my gr.grandparents)

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello Rambler,
Thank you for your reply.  I am just leaving to visit Eileen to give her your last message ref. John Powell on 1901 Census.

Many thanks.

Kind regards
Stringfellow

For Scottish info, I'd ask on the Scotland board - I'm afraid my research is all England/Wales, and you probably need someone with access to the Scottish People website.

Hello Rambler,
I'm so pleased to have made contact at last.   Thank you again.   I never cease to be amazed at the information some people can obtain from this modern technology.  Eileen will be sorry that you have no family connection but she is delighted to have had such a helpful response.

I wonder if you could perhaps point me in the right direction of where to look for another person?  We have only his name and was last heard of in Scotland.  I have tried 192.com but didn't get anywhere.  I was just about to try the Scottish Roots Chat when I picked up your reply.

Regards
Stringfellow

Hello Manchester Rambler,
Thank you for your early response to my request for Powell descendants.  Since receiving your reply I have been trying to thank you but, due to my inexperience and the fact that my computer is 'playing up' I have not had any luck.  I am now trying this avenue to contact you and I hope this works.

The information asked for was on behalf of my friend, Eileen, who is researching her husband's maternal side of the family.   She is very pleased with your response and  wants to know if YOU are connected to the Powell family.
I did explain to her that the people who reply to Roots Chat queries are people who have a lot of information at their fingertips and are happy to pass this on to those asking.

I originally placed the request on the Staffordshire site but the Moderator moved it but said there were still links on that site.  However, I have not yet been able to find any reference on Staffordshire page.   I thought I had this Roots Chat system sorted but each time I hit on snags...

Once again many thanks for your response which is very much appreciated.

Stringfellow.

I am trying to find descendants of Charles POWELL b.1850 Tugford and brother Edwards  b.1834 at Cold Weston, Shropshire.

I understand that a niece and/or nephew of the above brothers moved to Staffordshire. The niece was Elizabeth b.1878 and the nephew was Thomas b.1874. Both were born at Hopton Wafers in Shropshire and were the children of John b.1845.

Also interested in descendants of
William POWELL b.1835 at Enville, Staffs.  William married Anne PARSONS and had children William b.1859, Annie Eliza  b. 1863 and John b.1865.
William later married COMFORT and had children Margaret b.1883 and Harry b.1885.  The families lived at Much Wenlock and Billingsley in Shropshire.

Any help in tracing the above would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
