thanks wee hugh, yeah i'll just keep searching.  I've just come in from a 13 hour shift and shattered and saw I had replies.  What I did not know is that there is a self important rootschat police dept that has trawled through my  posts.  I've been ill for some time and have not used site for a while, just thought there may be someone knew on line who could add  something.  after the 'abrupt and frankly inappropriate posts'  not you wee hugh,  but the other post, this is my last post, and the last i'll read any other posts, which I have always found to be so interesting and informative.  maybe some people ought to get a life eh.  Goodbye  regards to the decent peeps who have helped me.  signing off  hidecote

Renfrewshire / is registered death where you are buried?
« on: Wednesday 25 December 13 18:24 GMT (UK)  »
hi,  can anyone help me with registered deaths,  if a death is registered in Edinburgh mean the person is buried in Scotland.  I've been here before and thanks for help, but still trying to find final resting place of my uncle. He died I know on board ship berthed at New York, I have the entry from Edinburgh but what does this mean, is there a chance he was laid to rest in Scotland, have been going round in circles for several years would love a bit of a break.  Cheers

thanks so much, checking these out,  isn't it funny this family search, I hit a brick wall about 3 years ago, and all of a sudden I've found so much new info, thanks to transcribers of websites of course and a bit of investigative work, cheers again,

Renfrewshire / 16 year old from Paisley ragged school in the Indian Rebellion 1857.
« on: Sunday 27 October 13 12:49 GMT (UK)  »
hi, I recently got quite a few updates on my family.  One was William Menzies 16 years who is noted in Parish aid records in 1857 still in ragged school and 1858 shows him in India in the army,  what I know is the Sepoy mutiny erupted around this time.  Has anyone got any info on how this young a lad got into army, and any other info on army in Paisley, I know about the barracks on Glasgow Road, very interesting, was it regular for boys from ragged school to be enlisted, any other info would be great.  cheers

Renfrewshire / Re: "North Poorhouse" in Paisley?
« on: Tuesday 10 September 13 16:22 BST (UK)  »
hi, the North Poorhouse was also known as the Abbey Poorhouse, it was on Craw Road and the buildings were incorporated into the RAI hospital many years ago and now its space has houses on it.  There are however 2 original detached houses still there.  Craw Road is just over from Neilston Road at Stock Street.  The other poorhouse was the Burgh Poorhouse which was the other side of the railway at Old Sneddon Street at Hospital Lane (no longer there).  It was the Lunatic Asylum which then added a poorhouse, my ancestor Rebecca Menzies was an inmate in the 1850s when it was a dreadful time in Paisley, Cholera again rampant loss of weaving due to worldwide changes.  What a dreadful time it must have been.  Hope this answers if not come on back  cheers,

Sussex / Gerard Menzies Brighton and Isle of Wight
« on: Sunday 12 February 12 18:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, just wondered if anyone in Brighton area or Isle of Wight is researching a Gerard Menzies.  I am trying to fill some gaps. He was,is, my Uncle.  Born in Paisley in 1921, he found his way down south, he was in RAF over in Syria, Israel, Egypt and on return he was married in Brighton, I should say I know he passed away in 1966 in New York harbour, he was at sea as steward on big liners. I am trying to find where he may be laid to rest.  I believe he was married again on Isle of Wight. I know I can not mention anyone that may be living, however since my mum died (his sister) I have an urgency to try to find where he is so I can close a chapter in my family as my mum Margaret McLaren (Butler)  lost touch many years ago through some silly family problem and was devastated the rest of her life.
Thanks for reading this I hope someone can help.

US Lookup Requests / Tracing Uncle died New York on ship 1966
« on: Wednesday 07 September 11 18:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any info on someone who died on board ship in New York in 1966.  My Uncle Gerard Menzies worked on Ocean Monarch as Steward, he died aboard ship on April 1st 1966 at Pier 93?.  I have a death entry in Scotland but can find no trace of burial etc.  Is it possible he may have been buried in USA.  If anyone has knowledge of what would probably have happened or have access to info I would so appreciate it.
Thanks
Hidecote
