BACSA says his grave is recorded in the Cemetery Record Book at Dehra Dun - Chandranagar Cemetery, pp65, 91, 106
His name was Iltudus Thomas Prichard, and he died on 23 December 1874
Many thanks, Richard

Hi,
Have a look at www.herberthistory.co.uk/pages/9.htm click ‘The Wood Family’, then ‘Wood Family Tree’.  These Woods all came from Cirencester, but I’ve always had a feeling that they came there from a smaller place around Gloucestershire and only stayed for a couple of generations on their way to London.

Have you come across The Cirencester Society in London? www.csil.org.uk Look at ‘Archive List of Dinners, which is really a meetings summary all the way back to about 1700. Search for 'wood' using 'Control F' function.

Jamie, Sorry I think that my message was confusing.
My gggrandfather George was George Herbert, not George Dolloway!
I think that I now have the relationships which are:

Thomas Dolloway b abt 1708 married Sarah ?, he died in Oct 1795, she in May 1778, both in East Hoathley/Hoathly.

Thomas & Sarah had the following children:
Ann b 28 Jun 1734, Thomas b 11 Apr 1736, Samuel b 22 Oct 1738, William b 14 Nov 1752, all in East Hoathley.

Ann Dolloway then married Benjamin Brinkhurst as per my earlier message.

I have not tried to find later Dolloways than Ann, they are a nightmare with so many possible spellings! Although the ancestry software picks up some of them, you have to search on at least 5 or 6 variations to catch them all!

Best regards, Richard.

Hi. I have some  DOLLOWAY/DALLOWAY/DALLAWAY information.
My great grandfather George’s mother was Sarah Brinkhurst [1809 – 1901], and her grandmother was Ann Dolloway who married Benjamin Brinkhurst on 14 April 1762 in East Hoathley, Sussex. She was born 29 June 1734 also in East Hoathley.
Ann had a brother William [and possibly also a brother John], and I have notes written by George  circa 1923, which say:
‘Our family connections include an Uncle of my Grandfather named William Dallaway who as a Customs or Revenue Officer held a roving commission in the Counties of Sussex, Surrey and Kent, especially on all roads from the coast to London and other inland towns.’

In addition his will left ‘The miniature in gold mount of William Dolloway a great Uncle on my Mothers side’ to my grandfather, and it is still in the family.
So I could let you have a picture of William if he was a relative of yours.
Richard.

Hi Ali, I left out one major piece of info, in that my family tree shows 'Miriam Norman (aka Lander)' , so you may need to look under that name rather than Norman.

Hi, there is mention of a member of the Cross family in an Old Bailey trial of  11 Jan 1827 , see
http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/html_sessions/T18270111.html
JOHN THOMPSON was indicted for stealing, on the 6th of January, 2 shoes, value 10s. , the goods of Joseph Moore .
HARRIET MOORE . I am the wife of Joseph Moore , a shoe-maker - we live in Chichester-place, Gray's-inn-road. On the 6th of January, between three and four o'clock, while I was in the parlour, the prisoner came into the shop - I went in, and he said he came from Captain Cross - a lady named Cross lodged with me; I told him to go to the private door, and immediately he left the shop door I missed these shoes; I opened the door, and saw he was going away without knocking at the private door; I called to him to come back, but he did not - I ran and took hold of him, with this pair of shoes under his jacket.
RICHARD COOPER . I am an officer. I was in Gray's-inn-lane, and saw this lady calling the prisoner - she took the shoes from him, and I secured him.
Prisoner. I was very drunk, and did not know what I was doing.
RICHARD COOPER . He was perfectly sober.
GUILTY . Aged 52.
Transported for Seven Years .
