Very very interesting stuff, Wendy!  Thank you so much for digging this stuff up!  If John is no longer the head- think he passed away?  Also, I checked out the address in google-maps, and it's smack-dab beside a huge church... but also near an inlet... interesting.  :)  Guess they're always by the sea, this family.  :)

Hmm... Lodging House Keeper.  Interesting!!  Wonderful wonderful info, Wendy!  :)

BTW, if you have their full names etc., could you keep me in the loop as well with pm's?  We'd greatly appreciate that!  It's wonderful to know more this far back.  Amazing that we can!

My very best!

Ha ha!  That's fantastic.  That's definitely the family.  As far as I know, we don't have any info on John Soutar and where he might be buried... John is pretty common of course, so that contributes to the problem...

Wonderful information!  :)

Thank you for that, Wendy!

ps- the family has a bit of an illustrious past- quite a bit was accomplished by them once they made it to Jamaica.  Among many things, they were the manufacturers of the (Soutar then changed to) Temple Hall Cigar which was a huge success in the UK for quite some time I believe.  [Now under different ownership I believe.]

We're related!!  ha ha ha.  My Great great grandfather was Simon Soutar of the Isle of Man, moved to Jamaica, family owned the Temple Hall Estate.  :)

I would *love* to hear more information from anyone.  We have some from our family as well.

ps- perhaps he doesn't show up because of the move to Jamaica... but it seems a bit young, that would be 10 years only.  I do think they may have moved back to Scotland before the move to Jamaica, but I can't be sure.  He was very important to the island... made the Kingston Warf, The first plumbing in Kingston I believe, and was also the Ambassador to Norway and Austria, I think?  I can't remember everything off hand here... I'll see what we have if there's anything written down.

pps- Is the above Census page for the whole family, or only for *all* Souter's on the island? (and is the Soutar/Souter difference common, or should we treat it as a different family?)  - Thank you for the info!!
