Armed Forces / Joining the army in 1884

Just discovered that my G.Grandfather was served with a notice of enlistment to join for 4 years, with the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was 26 at the time, employed as a slater, married with two children and according to the notice had prevoiusly served with the regiment (although haven`t found any details on this yet). Found this by chance on Find my Past. Curious as to why he was conscripted at this time.

Hi Bluebike 1

There are no relationships recorded on the 1841 census. The only John Walls that I have in my family tree is Laurence and Martha`s son, John, born in Dumfries in 1846.

Mary Ann Cassells Neisham married James Mitchell, son of James Mitchell and Jessie Hutchinson on 4th July 1884 in Dumfries.
Elizabeth Neisham`s parents were definately George and Margaret, she is not the first person I have come across who have told some whopping lies on certificates.
Thomas Douglas is the reputed father of the Douglas twins, but I have no more info on him.

Dumfriesshire / ADAMSON FAMILY CAERLAVEROCK
« on: Friday 13 August 10 22:13 BST (UK)  »
I am struggling with my 5 x g. grandfather and his family and wonder if any of you kind people can help or point me in the right direction. Robert Adamson was born c1732 in Caerlaverock, he married Elspeth/ Elizabeth Underwood, not sure when. I have tried Scotlands People and LDS sites but am no further forward. I also have no details on the Underwood family, found three possible births for Elizabeth but not sure if any are the correct one.
Their son, Thomas born 1757 in Caerlaverock married Jannet Wilson, daughter of Robert Wilson in 1785, again no more details on this branch of the family. Their daughter Margaret is my 3x g. grandmother, she was easy to trace compared to the rest of her family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Gilly

I do not have the parents of Laurence, but I found a distant relation on another genealogy forum, she employed a professional to research and they came up with a Michael Wells as Laurences father. Apparently Michael came over from Ireland in the early 1800`s. I do not know if Laurence had any brothers or sisters, so cannot help with the John. In the 1861 census Laurence was in Edinburgh staying with his uncle Laurence and his family.

The Janet Clark who was married to my g. grandfather died on 9th March 1858 in Friars Vennel. Dumfries, she was the daughter of Joseph Clark and Rossanah Burns. John McClure then married Catherine Walls and that is my family line.

My great grandfather, John McClure was married to a Janet Clark, born about 1832 in Dumfries, daughter of Joseph Clark and Rossanah Burns, it is possible that she could be the Janet on the 1851 census.
