I am directly descended from James Rampling - he is my great great grandfather on my paternal side. I have a friend helping me with family history so I am using his account. I am fascinated by the photo of James and two others taken circa 1848 ( and the family resemblance is strong), however some things don't quite add up - James lost his mother Sarah Rampling ( nee Hurrell ) born 1897 d 1833 when she was 36 and James was only 8, so this cannot be his mother in the photo. Also James was transported in 1842 when has 17 years old, so I think this photo ( if it is him ) must have been taken in New Zealand. His wife Eliza Jane Williamson was 9 years older than him, so this could be her, just a really bad photo, the other man may be the person who married them. I have also read the letters from his father and sister back in England which are interesting, thank you for posting these. It has been mentioned that he hid his children in the chimney for their safety during the Eureka Stockade, so I am wondering who has seen letters written by James back to his father recounting these events. I live in Malvern, and my brother David is the last Rampling in this line as he has four daughters. Looking forward to any further information, kind regards, Jenny Fletcher ( nee Rampling )

Where in Limerick City was John D TRAND buried?

Is there anyone out there who can please help me with this problem?

One of my x3 Great-Grandfathers, John D TRAND, died suddenly on Henry Street, in Limerick City on Sunday 11 Dec 1854, whilst walking home from visiting a friend. He was stated as late of Ennis and an accountant. the source for this is the 13 Dec 1854 'Limerick Chronicle' newspaper report, which is on the Limerick City website.

There's a record of a Probate existing for him too. The date is 1852, probably the date of the Will, but I haven't been able to view this record either and find out if the Will and Probate record have survived. This record points to him being late of Lifford, Clare, which is now part of Ennis.

TRAND seems to be a very rare and unusual surname in Ireland, but I have no information on his ancestors at all. He was supposedly married to a Hannah KENNEDY and they had at least four children born in Limerick and Clare between the 1820s-1840s, John, Patrick, Annie and Maria. I have no christenings for the children or marriage or burials for the parents either.

All the four children emigrated to the Victorian Goldfields in Australia during the 1850s.

This may or may not mean anything, but the name in Australia has also at times been recorded as "Le TRAND" or "de Tronde", etc and there's the family story on this line is that we have "French Ancestors". But who knows?

It's difficult to make much progress with research in Ireland from here in Australia without the help of others, so I'd really appreciate any information anyone can dig up on the TRAND family.

Thanks so much for this information and all your efforts. The funeral notice is very helpful particularly as it mentions family.

I'm still hopeful that someone may find an Obituary in the Cleveland Standard or some other paper, but I guess we'll see.

Thanks so much for going to that effort for me. I know how laborious it can be trawling through microfilm newspapers. It all adds to the picture though, so it's much appreciated.

Thanks too for the other Middlesbrough Evening Gazette suggestion. There could be something in that one or perhaps in 'The Cleveland Standard' if anyone is near the area or somewhere that has these papers.

Is there anyone out there in the Middlesborough or Redcar area that could maybe help?

1941 REDCAR, YNR, ENGLAND OBITUARY REQUEST 

Hi everyone, I'm looking for an Obituary for Alderman & Mayor of Redcar, Charles (Charlie) Harris, who died as a result of a WW2 bombing raid in 1941. A bomb landed on the Zetland Club in Redcar, YNR, England on 21 Oct 1941 killing him and 14 others.

I think there could be one in 'The Cleveland Standard', but I'm open to suggestions.

I hope there's someone out there who could possibly help, as I need to find out what family members are stated in the Obituary, including any possible married name for his daughter Edna.
