FH Documents and Artefacts / Re: Marriage certificate - Hulley

Hi stan

I got the certificate from the local records office and it is hand written, not a photocopy.  When they sent it to me they also enclosed a letter stating that they had double checked it and it was definitely how it had been written.

FH Documents and Artefacts / Marriage certificate - Hulley
« on: Friday 24 June 11 09:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I have a marriage certificate for my great grandad who was called Francis William Hulley and he married Lois Ann Woodward on 19 April 1897.  I know it is the correct certificate but what is puzzling me is that under grooms name it says James William hulley but he then has signed the certificate as Francis Hulley.  Then for his fathers name it states Joseph Hulley when I know for certain that his father was called Jasper.  Any suggestions as to why the certificate would say these things.  I know that Francis went to prison in 1891 and wondered if maybe that had anything to do with it.

Thank you so much for all your help.  I had already found the entry of death for Walter Hindle and was debating whether it could be the right one or not but I will probably send off for that certificate.  The death entry for Selina I had not been able to find for some reason so that info is a great help and I will be sending off for that certificate aswell.  I have already looked Selina up in the 1911 census and she was still living with Daniel Lomas in liverpool and had her eldest daughter Grace with her (my husbands great aunt), that was how i came to find out that Selina had married Daniel first.
Thanks again for everything.

Hi

I have a couple of people in my tree like that.  One had the middle name Lonsdale, which turned out to be the maiden name of his 3 x great grandmother.
Another had the middle name of Carew.  There are no Carews in the family and we can only think that she was given it because the area she was from had a noble family there with that surname.

His daughter margery married Wilfred Ramsden on 17/4/1937 at Manchester South Registry Office.

Thank you so much for the info you sent about Selina.  I actually know quite a bit about Selina but some of the info you sent I did not have so thanks.  The death is not the right one as my Selina was still alive in the late 1950s as my father in law can remember her and he was not born until 1940.  Walter Hindle is the main mystery and I am not sure how to find him.

Lancashire / Walter Hindle - Lancashire

Hi all

My husbands great grandfather was called Walter Hindle and he is a bit of a mystery.  His "wife" was called Selina but we aren't 100% sure that they ever actually married.  The only info I have on him is that in 1912 he lived at 109 Hyde road, Ardwick, manchester and that he was a clerk.  His wife Selina was originally called Selina Washington and was born in liverpool in 1882 and we think that she was previously married to a Daniel Lomas and maybe never got divorced from him.  It gets complicated because Daniel was originally married to Selinas Aunt who was also called Selina (surname Collett)!  Anyway we think that there is a family scandal somewhere along the line.  Back to Walter though, because I have such little information about him i have been unable to find a birth, marriage or death for him.
It gets more complicated as Walters daughter, margery, married in April 1937, and the certificate states that her father is still alive. But Walter had another daughter called Edna who died in January 1937 and the death certificate has written on it that her father Walter was a businessman but deceased!
i would be very grateful if anyone has any information on Walter Hindle or any of the other people i have mentioned in this message.

Thank you
