Thanks Northern Rose, I just did that and it's ok!

Stan...where did you look to get that info from the Liverpool Mercury?

Siamese Girl,

I've just logged onto the Gale Newspaper site for their free trial and it's asking for State, zip code and for an Institution name and address.  It's obviously American.  Can I still register in the UK?
Thanks,
Tony

Thanks Stan and Siamese Girl - it certainly sounds like him.  On his marriage certificate his occupation is coal heaver! I'd certainly like to know what his crime was, though, which was a few years before the bit in the newspaper.

His name was Matthew Gittins, my mother's grandfather. His daughter, Mary Gittins, married James Dillon.  They were my mother's parents.
I know he married Sarah Ellen Lloyd in 1889.  I have his marriage cert and his death cert.

Hello Roots folk,
I haven't been on-line for a while but I've got a question, and hope someone can help me.
Where can I found details of a relative of mine who on the 1881 Census is shown as a prisoner in H M Prison Kirkdale, Liverpool aged 25, born 1856 in Ireland.
Would I be able to find out the date he was sentenced, the crime, his release date and what happened to him after that?

Thanks.
Tony

Thanks everyone.  Much appreciated.  I shall work on all your advce today.
Shaun - what do you mean, send you my email address by PM. What's PM? Do you mean by this afternoon?  Or does it mean something technical? It's a bit early on a Monday morning for the brain to be at full power yet!

Morning All,  (Am I in the right chat room for this question?)

Can anyone help me?  My grandfather, according to the birth certificates of a few of his children, was down as an oilmill labourer/oil refiner's labourer.
The period was from about 1913 to 1922.  Anyone any idea where I might find out about oil refineries in Liverpool at that time?

Thanks.
Tony

Thanks behindthefrogs(!!, there must be a story behind that name) and Jorose. I'll have a look at both sites asap.
