Hi Kenbro, Snap, I'm a descendant of Francis & Mary Anne, (I'm a Young)
Nicholas came back to Scotland and eventually died in Midlothian in 1913

Deb,

You were right, the father is Nicholas who was a miner. Address appears to be Luay - St. Agnes.

Hi Deb,

Found the following on IGI
John 25/12/23, Thomas 26/03/26, Isaac 26/12/32, Ann 23/07/33, Mary 17/09/35, Henry 05/08/37, Samual 19/08/39, Sarah Catherine 12/08/41 & Richard 29/09/45

As you said Barkla seems to be the recognised surname (although it appears local to Cornwall in this period).

Hi Again,

Have just received the copy marriage certificate of Nicholas to Ann in October 1854.

Both are 21, Ann's surname, and of her father Jonas looks more like Baiklo. Do you know if this is a recognised surname?

Cheers

Gadget,

The 1881 Census said that Nicholas went to the US (alone) however he must have returned as I have him in the 1891 census & then his death in 1913, Ann (wife) died in Loanhead in 1899, Mary Ann died 1931 in Loanhead & Sarah Jane 1946 in Motherwell. I have still to track William James's death and to find out what happened to Sarah (dob 1861 - poss  d1869 see earlier reply) & Bessy.

Mary Ann was my Gr x 2 Grandmother, she married Francis Young in 1876

Cheers

Gadget,

Interesting to note her stated age as 19 - a wee white lie, possibly as she may have been in the family way with Robert. her death in 1946 confirms a birth circa 1870
