Puddletown was once called Piddletown, as the River Piddle runs by it.

The Lighter Side / Help please identifying silver pin
« on: Tuesday 25 February 25 20:21 GMT (UK)  »
I appreciate any comments to help me identify this pin.  I know my paternal grandmother qualified as a midwife at the Marylebone Hospital in 1912, though it may not be connected to this pin.  Your suggestions are very much welcomed.

Thank you all for your help.  Finally tracked down Charlotte Pooley - she was married in Canada in 1906 to Thomas Henry Hill. I am now in possession of their marriage certificate. Moved back to UK somewhen, and died in June 1945 in London.
A long journey,  thank you so very much for your help.  I can now mark this as Completed.  Thank you  again.

Canada / Re: Marriage records 1930s
« on: Monday 10 February 25 20:41 GMT (UK)  »
I recently ordered and received a copy of a marriage certificate for Manitoba in 1906 and it gave the parents of both bride and groom.  Whether it would still be in the 1930s I do not know.

Canada / Marriage Certificate for Thomas Henry Hill and Lottie Pooley - 1906
« on: Thursday 07 November 24 20:21 GMT (UK)  »
I have tried numerous times to obtain a certificate for Thomas Henry Hill and Lottie Pooley, married in Winnipeg, Manitoba on the 21 June 1906, via the Manitoba Vital Statistics Branch but no luck.  It tells me "there are no records that match your query".  This information is on *ncestr* with a URL for the Vital Statistics site.
Any suggestions?

Family Bibles / Re: How can I return an old Bible to it's rightful family?
« on: Saturday 20 July 24 20:15 BST (UK)  »
Yes, your intentions are certainly laudable.  I discovered, amongst my husband's belongings, after he passed away,  an unconnected to the family, a Family Bible.  After much searching, both here and elsewhere, I found the family it really belonged to.  Once in contact, they kindly gave me their address, I, at my cost posted the heavy tome to the descendant.  Sadly, there was not a thank you, or an offer to refund the cost.
I would be absolutely delighted to received a Family Bible belonging to my ancestors, however this is now very unlikely.
