hi there Howard, it was good to get another reply to this post after so long.. i,m still looking for John Joseph Farrar, and unfortunatly haven't gotten much further than i had before!! John Joseph is my great great grandad so i'd really love to know more. i do now have a few more dates etc. from the records office concerning his wife Mary Frost, but as i say, John is still a mystery, i would love just one tiny breakthrough!! I'd love to stay in touch though as i'm sure any help you could offer would be invaluable. Thanks again. Laura.

Durham / Why can't i find him??
« on: Monday 21 May 07 10:15 BST (UK)  »
I'm having problems tracking down a man called Thomas King Ridley. This is a new root i'm taking in my research so as of yet i don't know a lot about him other than his name, he married a woman called Betsey Hullah and as far as i know he came from the Sunderland area. I know this isn't much to go on but i was hoping if i could get a little more info about him i might be able to go back a bit further with this side of the family. Hopefully some one will be able to help, i'll keep my fingers crossed. thanks to everyone in advance.

Ireland / Irish ancestors
« on: Tuesday 24 April 07 08:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I don't know if anyone can help here but i've just found one of my ancestors was Irish and i've never had to research the Irish before, although from what i can understand, it isn't very easy!!
My ancestor was John Pooley. He was born about 1816 in Ireland, but i don't know where. By 1851 he was living in England and he married Catherine Curphy who was the Isle Of Man.
I know this isn't a lot to go on but i would love to know something about him, where he came from or something. Any help or info anyone could offer would be a huge help. Thanks a lot everyone.

Hello Andrea. Right, i do know the Usher/Chapman marriage is right as my father in law, whose family this is, remembers this as these were his grandparents. Hes not sure however about all their children, the only ones he can remember were girls, but that doesn't say there weren't any boys. His mother was Florence Ivy Usher who was born 1906, and she had a sister, Theresa who was born in 1900. One of my father in laws cousins is still alive and his mother was Theresa which is how i'm certain of this. Any of this any help?

Hi Tati. Sorry about the lack of info, unfortunately its about all i have. I think the 1901 census you have is the right one though, they all came from that area.
I don't have Eleanor Briggs' marriage cert either, do you think i'll need it to go any further? I've gone quite a way back with the Usher family its just the Briggs i'm stuck with.

I'm interested in finding out who Edward Lawson Oliver's parents were. I know his father was William Oliver, born about 1805 and that he married an Anne who was born about 1811, but i don't know Annes maiden name or anything else about her. Can anyone help at all?
