I lived in the village of Branxton for a while some time ago and the locals there referred to a farm called Encampment as Campie, or Campsie. It is just off the main Wooler - Coldstream road, south of Crookham. The farm is very close to the site of the Scottish encampment before the battle of Flodden.

Hi Boo,

I've got Belford West Street to 1848. It seems that the Minister died in 1838, and I have made a note in the transcript that the register is erratic after that date. 1838 is incomplete, 1839 has only 11 entries, and 1840 is missing altogether. 1841 has a few entries but they begin on the 24th March. If she was born in the first quarter, it looks as if she has just missed being entered. C'est la vie!

Merry Christmas to all.

I have transcripts of Presbyterian registers which I did for Berwick Record Office and most of which are now available at Berwick Record Office and at Woodhorn. I also have some marriages, burials and baptisms abstracted from Scottish parishes bordering Northumberland.

We concentrated on transcribing Presbyterian registers because some of them just came to light in recent years. A lot of information is not available online, which is why I keep and eye on this forum in case anyone is up against a brick wall!

George Craik, labourer of Tweedmouth and Margaret Johnson his wife had a daughter baptised at Shaw's Lane Presbyterian Chapel in Berwick on 18 September 1814, born 9 September and named Martha Katherine ( writter Keteron).

George Creak and Margaret Johnstone both of Berwick Parish were married at Coldstream Bridge (irregular marriage) on 2 July 1797.

Berwickshire News, 23 November 1923
Dublin City Hospital, suddenly 3rd November, John Martin, 2nd son of the late Archibald Martin , Swallowdean, Duns.

In the 1901 census John Martin is listed as a station master at Dunsyre, Lanarkshire, and his son Alexander aged 10 born at Kirknewton, Midlothian.

I have looked in the Berwickshire News for 1915. There is a report about a Private Alex. Martin of the 2/4th KOSB, wounded on 12th July at the Dardanelles and now in hospital at Alexandria, Egypt. He is not reported in the list of KOSB Dardanelles deaths issued in June 1916, neither can I find any report in the family notices or Rolls of Honour for his death.

According to the report Alex. is the son of John Martin, and grandson of Mr. Archibald Martin of Duns, and was born in Scotland. There is reference in the newspaper to another Alex. Martin, also of the KOSBs who was also born in Scotland.
