OP says FreeBMD does not give year of birth, but AnthonyMMM in reply #10 states it is "- - 1942", he is no doubt correct.

Surely the only way forward is to get the certificate? This will give informant's name & relationship [this may not be someone who knew person well enough to know accurate date or place of birth - as has been pointed out by Sloe Gin & AnthonyMMM].

As I understand it - it should be possible to contact the person uploading or transcribing the FS records via a link on the record on FS. Having said that, I haven't had a reply from the transcriber on the two occasions I have made contact.

Have you checked to see if there was a will? This would confirm maybe full name, actual date of death and address to possibly tie in with the person you are following. Obviously won't give date/year of . What about the main pay websites?

Sorry GR2, I was going to suggest we shared the next one but I am less familiar with that older hand so will have to leave RS42.9.384 to you!

An aside, ThumbelinaPM - although they didn't start till the 1870s, do you have the First Series search sheet for the [15s] Lands [of old extent] of Easter Glentore? Do you know which estate they formed part of? That estate's records may still have the original dispositions/feu charters/leases on which these sasines are based.

The NRS have the following records, sadly no maps.

BR/NBR/8/1087   General Manager's file re siding for Easter Glentore Colliery   1865   This record is Open.
CS97/93/B4A   Easter Glentore, East Markland, Lanarkshire   1820   This record is Open.
CS271/43542   Bill of Suspension and Interdict Arthur Wilson (Willson, Wilsone), writer in Edinburgh, heritable creditor to John Arthur, portioner of Easter Glentore v John Fleming of Craigs, & another (Trustees of John Arthur of Easter Glentore)   12 May 1788   This record is Open.
RH9/4/121   Inventory of James Whyte's writs, 1667-1726, of lands of Wester Glentore in parish of Easter Monkland, sheriffdom of Lanark   1731   This record is Open.
RH9/17/362   Tacks (leases) and missives of let: University of Glasgow to Nicol Spence, writer in Edinburgh, of parsonage teinds of his half of the easter 16s. land of Glentore in parish of New Monkland, sheriffdom of Lanark, for term of 13 years   15-16 Feb 1738   This record is Open.

You're doing an amazing job GR2. I am away from today but will join in when I can, maybe ThumbelinaPM will post more of them and we can split them up between us!

Larger images would help - try to post the largest image that rootschat allow, resize your images if necessary. I will look at your postings later. Certainly not in Latin! And not in secretary hand. Look in your course to get familiar with how years in numerals are written.

General notes: any land transferred [if it is land - could be fishings] in any sasine is after the 'All and Haill/Whole' part, there may be more than one subjects [usually signified by roman numerals I, II etc.]. For land some earth used to be transferred, for fishings water etc.; sometimes the land is described as 'part of the Lands of xxx' where xxx is the estate of the feudal superior; sometimes the areas and/or dimensions and/or neighbours are mentioned.

I transcribed or took the salient information from many many sasines in a past role, from the 18th century onwards. Yes, there was a format followed but this may vary between writers [solicitors], year and location. I don't recall ever having seen an amount of money apart from feu duty payable.

MaxD. Max Double left us  c 2021. He was a great military historian and helped me out so many times.
I couldn't agree more, he was generous with his wide-ranging knowledge and time. I too made friends on this site when I most needed 'company' and I too have left instructions for rootschatters to be informed when I die!
