Kirkcudbrightshire / Casway farm in Kirkgunzeon

Has anyone come across a farm or house in Kirkgunzeon called (in the late 1700s and early 1800s) Casway, Cassway and once recorded as Cassair. And then in the horse tax records as Casway otherwise known as Over Cossock.

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Looking for Forster Marriages

I don't have info on the Ralph Forster who married Mary - what I was meaning was that the Ralph Forster born 1829 whose parents were Thomas and Ann Forster wasn't the one who married Mary ...he married Elizabeth Brunskill in 1853.

Dumfriesshire / Re: Grierson Gainon family

Hi
Joseph Gainon Grierson and Janet Grierson were first cousins....both descending from Samuel Grierson and Janet Wightman. It is not clear whether Joseph's father James married his mother Mary. Rather than France I think the name Gainon may be a version of Gunion...from South West Scotland. Joseph Gainon Grierson died in 1855 and his wife Janet in 1869. They had at least seven children.

Ayrshire / Re: Gemmill deaths and/or burials Kilmarnock and area.

Troon@Ayrshire FHS has a 2 CD set of Ayrshire burials for sale. An index taken from the OPRs ..it covers Kilmarnock. There are dozens of Gemmells/Gemils etc on it but I couldn't find your James or Margt Niven. There is also a book of MIs published by the Sottish Genealogy Society ...but no likely stone. These books concentrate on stones with pre-1855 dates on them.

When you say "back to Helen McMurdo 1732" do you mean Helen Kirk wife of Thomas McMurdo?....3xgt grandparents of Thomas born 1877?  I have only one child for them to reach adult hood ...John bapt 1753 in Keir.... a James was bapt 3 years later but nothing more and then 2 more children who died as infants.

Brilliant - thank you very much. Discovered two of the Melville children were born in Craig...so the two families were obviously close. More digging needed <g>
