Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Village workhouses in Northants

I am trying to confirm whether or not there was a small workhouse in Harringworth village prior to the poor law act. 1841 census stated about 6 elderly ladies as paupers. I understand there was one up stairs next door to the White Swan that held about 8, but no written proof it was supposed to be in late 1700's then when uppingham opened the village applied for removal orders?? What are they.
I hope someone out there can help

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / WW1 memorial Harringworth
« on: Tuesday 04 November 14 19:49 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know if the Harringworth Parochial Church Council would keep minutes and where would they be archived?
I am looking for the rational behind the names on our WW1 war memorial (yes George Wright again)
have looked on PRO web site Kew and Northants records office site plus the Peterborough Diocese web site looking for where these sort of records would be archived. The Church Warden has no historical records, and is unable to help.
The war memorial was installed in the church on 11th November 1926 (have newspaper cutting)

is there anything if we extend search to 1914-1918?

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / George Wright Harringworth

I am researching the WW1 memorial and cannot find any information about George Wright or why he would be there on the memorial.
Found all the others all born in Harringworth Harry Browett, Fred Rudkin, Frederick William Rudkin, Ada Frances Curtis, Herbert Hackett, Frederick  Thorpe Cooke.  Samuel Frank Edmonds was the Vicar's son, but George Wright is a mystery.
1911 census of Harringworth no Wrights, a Wright born 1885 in Deenethorpe was working in Gretton and married a Dora Baker in 1912 1911 Census and earlier reveal 15 children (siblings) of George all born in Deenethorpe to Thomas Wrights and Charlotte.
have trawled through newspapers, census, CWGC site.
Found in 1940 trade directory there was a William Wright listed as a Butcher in Harringworth.
Just spent another 2 hours going through the 1917 and 1918 microfiche of the Stamford Mercury again dead end.
Any suggestions please.

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Toogoods of Overton Hampshire
« on: Sunday 04 February 07 16:43 GMT (UK)  »
I have been in contact with the Records Office In Winchester, neither George Toogood nor John Toogood have been buried in the  Parish churchyard at Overton any suggestions.
The only other direction I can go in is to find Georges parents. The Will regarding George Toogood (Carpenter) is my grandfather and I now have a copy. The one regarding John Toogood is earlier and talks about his son William Estall Toogood (a Carpenter)could this be Georges father ?
I did find a reference to both George and his wife Sarah (nee Sherman or Sheerman) both having come from Eversley Hampshire perhaps they have been buried there?
When did the birth/baptism records start ?

Do you have any idea how many years the Toogood family have been connected with Overton Hampshire?
I would like to trace George Toogood's Father, I have tried the LDS website and the Roots BMD, but no George Toogood, I have looked on the Overton history site but nothing comes up. Please could you point me in the right direction. I live over 4 hours away from the Hampshire Records Office, which would be the obvious place to go and spend a day.

Thank you so much for the information,it was sad to read that they had 3 infants who died a matter of days/weeks old. was infant mortality high in those days. Are there any books written about the history of Overton or Hampshire to get an insight into their lives ??
