THAT'S THE ONE! She actually lived in Cross Hills but I was told the shop was in Steeton, close to where her husbands family lived. Thank you, any idea what road it was on?

Other family members lived in Elmsley Street Steeton, I was given information she had an 'up market' shop close by. Are there any trade directories for that area and era?

Anyone know of, or remember a ladies clothes shop in or around Steeton in the 1950s. Shop owner was Blanche Fortune

Hi John,
I am grateful for all the effort in supplying some useful information, all of which I will investigate further. I had come across some of the names in my own search but didnt have anything to confirm any links. I agree that getting the marriage certificate is the way forward.
Thank you all again.

Thank you for the information, yes this is the death information I have. You have given me some positive leads to base further investigation.
Mary (Ellen/Eleanor) and Henry Harland were my father's adoptive parents but both died when he was in his teens. Apart from the 1921 census, both death certificates and that it was believed that Mary originated from Cumberland I had nothing to base my search.
Regards Glenda.
