Durham Lookup Requests / Re: John LESLIE - Death by accident - Hetton-le-Hole

Hi Jay

.... that's a shame, but at least I now know I need to concentrate on newspapers rather than the inquest report.

Many thanks for the info.

Caromich.

Hi Barbara

Yes, I do have the death certificate, which states there was a Coroners Inquest.  Just thought there might be a newspaper article about the unfortunate event which would give more details about the circumstances surrounding John's death.

Not sure if it is possible to obtain reports from inquests....??

Durham Lookup Requests / John LESLIE - Death by accident - Hetton-le-Hole

I wonder if someone could look up a Coroner's Inquest or newspaper reports please?

My ancester John Leslie died on 3 March 1869 as a result of an accidental kick of a pony.  He was a labourer, though most of the rest of the family were miners, so I'm not sure if said pony was a pit pony??  John was aged 30 or 31 at the time of his death.  He was buried on 6 March 1869 at St. Nicholas', Hetton-le-Hole.  A Coroner's Inquest was held but I don't know if this would have taken place between the death and burial dates, or subsequently.

I'm hoping that there is some newspaper coverage of this event and/or the Coroner's report is available for reading.  Any info would be gratefully received, including reference numbers to enable me to order copies of documents.

Many thanks

Completed Census Requests / Re: 1851/1861 Yorkshire (Bradford?) request ROWNTREE
« on: Saturday 30 December 06 20:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I've just joined Roots, and have been reading the messages regarding the Rowntree family of Bradford.  This is 'my' family, and I'd be delighted to swap notes within others doing the same research.

Tom Rowntree (b. Bfd 1853) is my descendant.  He is brother to Fred, Abraham Hopkinson, Albert Sager, Emma Jane, Ann and Joe.  Their parents are William Rowntree (b. 1815 Reeth) and Hannah Hopkinson (b. 1825 Tong) (I've got a bit of info on the Hopkinson line).  This was Williams second marriage, his first wife, Margaret Kennedy, died.  William's parents are Thomas Rowntree (c. 1771 Leyburn) and Ann (nee Stevenson?) (c. 1791 Leyburn).  Possibly married 7 August 1809 Grinton (according to IGI).

Would love to hear from anyone who can fill in some of my gaps!!
