Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Re: Obituary, Swindon newspaper(s) 1987 - CHAPMAN
« on: Saturday 29 August 15 04:18 BST (UK)  »
Thanks rosie99 for the lead - much appreciated! I've ordered the will from the Probate Office and it should be available to me from 13 Sep.

In the meantime, should you or any other kind soul intend to visit Swindon Central Library or The Wiltshire and Swindon Archive, Chippenham,  please could you/they check out the names of occupant(s) of 43 Bathampton Street, Swindon, SN1 5EG for the 7 years up to and including 1987?

Thanks again,

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Obituary, Swindon newspaper(s) 1987 - CHAPMAN
« on: Friday 28 August 15 11:17 BST (UK)  »
Would some kind soul be prepared to look for an obituary or death notice for Harold CHAPMAN, born 12 Feb 1904, whose death is recorded in the GRO Death Index, 4th qtr., 1987, Swindon Registration District. Harold's mother died when he was 12 months old and his father, a Grenadier Guard, died in July 1917 at Ypres, Flanders, Belgium, so he was orphaned at 13 years old.

Thanks in anticipation

On 17 May, 'antiquesam' kindly offered to do lookups at his local records office(s) and archives. Consequently, when you able to do so, I would grateful if you would search the 1922, 1923 & 1924 Electoral Registers (Rolls) at Portsmouth Records Searchroom (2nd floor, Portsmouth Central Library, in the History Centre) for the names of the occupants of 327 (Cambrian House?) Commercial Road, Landport, Portsmouth, Hants.

Thank you.

Five + years later, but better late than never, eh?
In 1572, James Cleypole (Claypole), 1534-1599, of Kings Cliffe, Northampton bought Northborough Manor, just 7 miles north of Peterborough. He and his descendants lived at the manor for the next 100 years or so. His grandson, John Claypoole (son-in-law of the Protector, Oliver Cromwell) was forced to sell Northborough Manor and other properties to pay his debts.

Robert Cleypoole/Claypoole is said to have been born in 1627 (Graff, 1893) and to have died in 1658. I have a copy of his PCC will dated July 1658. On 22 March 1707 (Gregorian calendar), his younger brother Benjamin wrote that "...Robert was a linnen draper but died a batchelor..."

Have you investigated possible family connections between the Claypoles of Gt. Easton and the Cleypole/Claypole/Claypooles of Northborough?

Hello sister J.'s friend! She and B. were still at Hunstanton 5 weeks ago, when we last spoke. As far as I know, they still don't have email but you could send her a message via son Paul's business - go to

Hi Paz,
Got a letter yesterday from my sister, also a friend of Anita's, asking me to try to help trace Sidney & wife Emma.
Cannot find the surname CANTHAM in FreeBMD (England & Wales) & no Emma Charlotte CANHAM born in England or Wales between 1890 & 1920.
Similar outcome so far for Sidney Frederick ABRAMS.
