Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Siblings born 20 days apart
« on: Tuesday 05 May 20 04:02 BST (UK)  »
 Tasmania - Harold KELLY 15/04/1903

I have been trying to find my husband's grandfather's (see above) mother.
His father was Robert Edward KELLY b 1875
Grandfather, Patrick KELLY m Sarah HEWITT RICHMOND TASMANIA
I cannot find a birth certificate for HARRY KELLY, assumed place of birth Zeehan, Tasmania.
I found ROBERT KELLY m THERESE BRIDGET LYNCH IN ZEEHAN in 1908.
Family information suggested mother was called AMY FLEMING. However, Robert's sister was Amy FLEMING nee KELLY.

Thank you for any help on Tasmanian Records. I've hit a brick wall for the last 2 years on Harry.

Here is an added interesting head scratcher....siblings to Robert Edward KELLY totaled 11.Two of being
Amy Frances b 08/07/1883 Richmond Tasmania
and August Frances b 28/07/1883 Spring Bay Tasmania, 20 days and 50km apart!
Any theories?

G'day, I have Janet Stewart and John and Mary Stewart in my tree.
I am confident they would be the same ones.

Dave
Well, sorry folks. As you may all know such is detective work, I was on the wrong track.
My grandmother changed her birth name from Agnes Lennox Stewart to Nana Lennox Stewart when she emigrated to New Zealand.
Hence the wrong family was being traced. I am pleased to let you know I found the right family originating from Cambusthean/Motherwell.
Thank you all for your (fruitless)help. But wasn't it fun and eventually a lot of good information was divulged.

Can someone clear up a place name for me please.
My grtgrandfather, Arthur Emmett b.1861 (gardener) came from St Anthony, but also is listed Bohovrow or Bohortha. Which would it be and also is this place the name of a farm, residence or village?

Hello Kilsyth. The information that I gave you is on a compact disc, of all the burials in cambusnethan Graveyard from the 1600s,up to 1993, with some gaps, but unfortunately it is not for sale, if you have any other queries, I will be most happy to have a search, and if you can give me the parents names, that will be a big help.
We also have surveyed Airbles, The Globe, South Dalziel and St. Patrick's Dalzell Estate graveyards in Motherwell, if you have anybody in them.
Yours Ron.

Hello Ron,
Such valuable resourses you have.
I would like to make a request for a look up.
My grtgrandparents are buried in Cambusnethan, but I am not sure of their death date. I am making a rough guess that it is between 1928 and 1940 as they returned to Scotland from New Zealand after 1928. They were born William Stewart, approx 1866 and Jeannie Stewart (nee Jane Heggie)approx 1871.
Also dates of deaths of Jeannie's parents James and Agnes Heggie would be appreciated. They all resided in Braeside Cottage Kirk Brae in the 1891 census and in the 1901 census William and Jeannie Stewart resided in Manse Rd, Wishaw.

Hi Ambly,
Thank you so much for your efforts.

I am beginning to think Agnes and Nana are the one and same.
I have a photos of Jeanie Heggie. My grt granparents lived in New Zealand for a few years when my grandmother was first married and returned to Scotland in the 1930s.My late father and mother(who has dementia now) had confirmed Jeanie's identity.
Also her and William Stewart are listed on Nana's marriage certificate along with William Cook Stewart, who I am assuming as her brother.
I am begiining to think Archibald Stewart was of no significance on the trip out of Southampton.
And it is interesting that you say that nancy can be another name aligned with Agnes, as her children were named Stewart, Jeanne and Nancy!
I was suspecting that she was a privately adopted child, however, her mother Jeannie, her daughters, my sisters and maternal girl cousins, all look alike, freakingly!
So, she may have lied about her age and is actually Agnes. My mother said there are too many skeletons in the closet and didn't devulge such personal information.
Why did our previous generations keep so many secrets. Although, have to say the detective work is fun.
Thank you again, Ambly
Deb :)

Hi Ambly,
My grandmother's name was Nana Lennox Stewart, born 1898, (sorry don't have day or month, have an inkling it was July) Parents being William Stewart and Jeanie (nee Heggie) Stewart. Place of birth in either Wishaw or Motherwell, Lanarkshire.
Hope you can find some more, or exact info.
Regards,
Deb

Lanarkshire / missing child in 1901 census
« on: Sunday 07 June 09 05:02 BST (UK)  »
I have a 1901 census for my great grandparents, the Stewart family in Seggie Pl Manse Rd, Motherwell, Dalziel and the Heggie family, Braeside Cottage, Kirk Brae, Cambusnethan (being my grandmothers maternal grandparents, whom the family resided with in the prior census).
The siblings of my grandmother were recorded,
James -12
Agnes -10
William- 4
but my grandmother who was aged 3 was not present at either addresses.
Did local hospitals have census available?
Appreciate any suggestions or lookups.

Thanks to all that replied.
This gives me something to move on with.
I had assumed different parents for my grandmother. How easily we are lead on the wrong path!
Now, after receiving a printout of a marriage cert. from New Zealand the correct (hopefully) info is the right path.
I have traced many generations from my father in Yorkshire and mother's father, New Zealand to Cornwall, but the Scotland line has been the most arduous, mainly to my Nana's secret life.
She came to New Zealand in 1920 with, we are assuming a different Christian name from her birth name. Anyhow, onward!
Cheers,
Debbie downunder:)
