Unfortunately it looks like a false trail. Thomas Dixson who was christened on 27 April 1705 at Kirby Hill also appears as Thomas Dixon (father William Dixon) who was buried on 27 April 1705 at Kirby Hill (IGI Batch I04240-3 film 1849349) - so it looks like a still birth.

Thank you so much for all your work. It was most interesting. I will have to see if I can discover anything before his marriage on 8 September 1725 recorded in the Ripley Parish Records. Any suggestions of the best place to look would be most helpful - unfortunately I live too far away from Yorkshire to actually visit the North Yorkshire archives. Where did you find the information about the marriage of Thomas Dixon and Anne Terry in 1699? It might be worthwhile to see if I can establish a connection.

Many thanks for all the information that your have so kindly supplied. The Ripley Parish register shows the marriage on '8 September 1725 Thomas Dixon of Thornton in the Parish of Ripon and Anne Lewty of Burnt Yates'. My notes from the IGI show the birth about 1703 of Thomas Dixon in Ripley Yorkshire on Film 457913 and as a second source batch A04028-7 Film 448970. I do not understand why, however, that since Family Search has changed its web site I can now no longer access these sources.

Thank you for your reply.

The baptism is mentioned in IGI. They had four children that I am aware of Thomas Dixon bap 27/9/1726, William Dixon bap 7/12/1729, John Dixon bap 11/05/1731 and Robert Dixon bap 26/2/1735 - all at Burnt Yates where Anne Lewty came from.

Where did you obtain the information about the marriage of a Thomas Dixon and Anne Terry in Ripon in 1699?

I have come to a brick wall, but I understand that there is a possibility that the Protestation Records might help for the 1600's. Is anyone familiar with these records and whether they would be likely to help? I am trying to find the parents of my ancestor Thomas Dixon who was baptised in 1703 at Bishop Thornton in the parish of Ripon. He later married Ann Lewty on 8 September 1725 at Ripley Parish Church.

Pels, that is great it ties in with the baptisms of Jane's sisters - the earliest one being Elizabeth Wiggon 19 Nov 1694 at Harewood.

Hi Pels

It could not have been Jane's father Robert as Jane was baptised on 22 Feb 1697
