Australia / Re: Immigration to Victoria 1853-1858

:) Thanks to all for all the help.
Yes, the tree on Ancestry is mine & yes they were Irish.
I had missed the one on "Trove" 1856 letters, means they were here then.
I had thought about 1854/55 originally as they were married in Tipperary Oct 1853 & first son was supposedly born in Oz 1855 but no birth record here for him & time in colony on death certs..
Thanks for the "Ondine" launch jpg. I could find very little online about the ship.
At least that narrows down my search now to 1854/55.
Regards, Karen.

Australia / Immigration to Victoria 1853-1858
« on: Wednesday 25 April 12 16:04 BST (UK)  »
Searching for John & Elizabeth Maybon / Maybin immigration to Victoria about 1854-1857 possibly through Geelong.
There is a newspaper advert in 1858 by John's brother James, who had recently arrived in May 1858, asking John to write to him & it states Ship Ondine.. which wasn't James' ship so I presume it was the one John came on.
I have checked all Victoria online assissted & unassissted immigration & found nothing.
Would anyone know of the "Ondine" or passenger lists for it?  :-\

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Re: Hughes Family - Ruabon

I found on Familysearch.org a baptism for a Sarah Hughs to Thomas Hughs & Susanah Williams born 26-2-1826, baptised 29-4-1827 at Independent, Rhosllanerchrugog, Dengighshire. (Hughes spelt here without the e.)

This could be a sister to Mary & Thomas. Does The Blackwell Index cover this area? :-\

I looked up Rhos & found " a village originally within the ancient parish of Raubon and the district was referred to as Morton Above. In 1844 Morton Above became part of the newly created parish of Rhosllanerchrugog.
This ties in with the family on the 1851 census living in Rhos, Morton Above.

Your thought of 2 marriages is also entirely possible.

:D Thanks for checking for me & for the bapt of Thomas, snr.
Thomas, jnr I'm as sure as I can be about mother's name as Susan as it's on his New South Wales, Australia BDM death record also.
As you say probably baptised elsewhere. His wife was born Ruabon but was baptised in Llangollen.

Yes, the scanned certificate on Ancestry is the one I put on there.
The Bridget middle name I would say I put in error as Catherine's grandaughter was named Catherine Bridget Hughes b.1888 (from her mother's mother named Bridget Austin).
Mails just been & no certificate yet, perhaps our Quantas strikes here are also holding up the mail from England.

The name Bridget also had me curious as when I go through any records I have it doesn't show, perhaps I put it in by error. I am discounting it now.

The marriage certificate I have for Jenkin Jenkins & Catherine states  "Catherine Hughes, widow in 1863, 3 children living 1 dead, of Denbighshire, N. Wales. 28 years old, father Thomas Foulks mother Ellen Davis.

Thomas Hughes died in 1863 so it is the same Catherine married to both.

I doubt young Thomas' death would have a death record as buried at sea.
Their next son was also called Thomas born in Aust. Nothing on Victoria BDM for him so I have a query out to South Australia awaiting an answer for any birth there between 1857 & 1859, as S.A. doesn't have an online bdm.
