Wow - thank you so much for all the extra information! I'll pop it all into my tree and see if I can keep the connection between the Hewitt's and Munn's of Comber going further :-)

Best Regards,

Mandy

Hi, I have today found the link between the MUNN family of Comber and my Hewitt family (who also partially ended up in Durham).

Isaac MUNN born c1827 Comber, living in Ballymagaughey, Comber in Griffiths valuation, was married to Ellen BRIDGET on 15 Jan 1847. It looks like Ellen may have died in childbirth after giving birth to twin girls Agnes and Ellen in 1868. They also had a daughter Sarah born 1864. (There may be more children but I haven't found them).

Ellen BRIDGET was the sister of Agnes BRIDGET who married my ancestor Robert HEWITT. Robert is also on the Griffiths valuation.

If anyone has information on these surnames please get in touch.

Regards,

Mandy

Hi Emma, Your Jane Hewitt may go back to Co. Down - I found a bunch of Hewitt's who left County Down in Northern Ireland for the Durham area. If you search for the name Thomas Nelson Hewitt, you'll find one of the families in the English census. It looks like 2 Hewitt brothers left Co Down for West Rainton and Pittington. Hope this helps a bit, Mandy

Hi, It's been a long time since you posted however this might just help...I am currently researching my Hewitt roots, and they came from Comber. I have found some Hewitt's also in West Rainton and Pittington near Durham and I just added them to my tree last night in case they match up with the Hewitt's from Comber. Place of birth is only listed as Co. Down in the English census returns. So if you search for Thomas Nelson Hewitt or Alexander Hewitt or Samuel Hewitt in the 1881 and 1891 census you'll find the families and they 'may' go back to Comber. I wonder why they left then for Durham?

Antrim / Re: Lookup Request 1901 Census Northbrook St Windsor Ward Belfast Smylie
« on: Monday 28 December 09 17:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Yes that is the correct family - I'm trying to get some more information on the year of birth and location of birth for David Smylie and Anne Jane McDade (the parents).
The children I have are:
William D SMYLIE 1882 – 1922
Elizabeth Martin SMYLIE 1884 – 1950
David SMYLIE 1886 – 1895
Joseph Ferguson SMYLIE 1887 – 1969
Margaret SMYLIE 1889 – 1919
Robert SMYLIE 1891 – 1916
Anne Martin SMYLIE 1893 – 1918
David SMYLIE 1895 – 1951
Jane SMYLIE 1898 –

Later 3 more children were born:
Flora Kathleen SMYLIE (1900-)
Edward Martin SMYLIE (1901-)
Thomas Sawyer SMYLIE (1903-1967)

In 1911 I find an Annie Smylie listed as born in Liverpool in 1860 and as sister of William D Smylie - which is very odd.

Do you know when the 1901 Belfast comes online? The census ireland web site says mid 2010.

Antrim / Lookup Request 1901 Census Northbrook St Windsor Ward Belfast Smylie
« on: Monday 28 December 09 15:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am wondering if anyone could do a lookup for the Smylie family living at either 86 or 90 Northbrook Street, Belfast in 1901? The father was called David Smylie and the mother would have been Anne Jane or Jenny. Also if there are any other Smylie or McDade's nearby that would also be great. I'm looking to see if all the children's names and dates of birth tie up.

Thanks,

Mandy
