I have 16 generations. No-one famous, but pretty sure it's accurate.

There appears to be a blocked out window.

Window tax was introduced in England and Wales in 1696. It was repealed in 1851. Suggests the building was built before 1851.

I have always been known by my second name.  One exception that I remember was my first manager when I started work.  Someone kindly pointed out his error - I would have never dared to say anything!

Like Gillg, I warned the hospital when I went in for surgery some years ago to use my second name.  These days I have so many appointments, that I am getting quite used to being called by my first name by those who do not know me.

Thank you for your many and varied responses to my original posting. Pleased that so many have happy memories to share.

I am grateful to so many who have helped me with my brick walls - some of which still seem to be permanent.

FS.

It's good news!

The marriage certificate arrived this morning.

Arthur Wardle and Mary Hanson were married on 30 June 1900.

She is described as a widow (Deceased husband's name not given). Daughter of Anthony Thomas Brown (deceased).

Thank you for help in tracing this through.

It was the BBC Message Boards - History.  I have some things printed off dated 2006.

I had tried "search" but no success.  Not everyone kept the same name.  I think Dee was on the BBC board.

aghadowey - guess you're right.

I started on Rootschat when the old bbc site was stopped. Just lately a few names came up into my mind and I wondered what happened to them - hence the reason for my question. (Maybe the names are not even correct!!)
