WOW, superb!  I'm absolutely flabbergasted!

I only posted late last night before bed, and due to it being Easter, never thought I'd get any replies for a week!  So to wake up and see that you have all put in so much work on my behalf... Thank you ALL ever so much. 

This branch has been always been a thorn in my side (pardon the pun) and to be able to actually get names and family members is amazing.  There is a lot of information to process.  I'll be writing it all out and piecing it together before putting in my tree.

I honestly can't thank you all enough.  I hope you all have a great Easter.

Hi, hoping someone can help me find the mother of my 2nd Gt Grandmother - Emily DOWNES.
As well as any further details about her father.

She was born 22 Feb 1874 in Birmingham.
Her father was James DOWNES, as per Emily's marriage certificate.  But he passed before 1893 as he was deceased on same certificate.  NFDK about him.
She married George JACKSON on 16 Jul 1893 in Saltley, Birmingham.
They had 10 children.

I can only find her on 1901 census and onwards.

Hi Avm,

I only have their son, John b1831, from the 1851 census.  He was 19 and I'm guessing was the last child to leave.  I am unable to find him or any others on the 1841 census at the mo.

Hi, I was hoping someone can figure out which John and Mary I'm related to?!

My 4th GF's (John Mee) parents were John Mee and Mary ??. 

I have managed to find two possible marriages for them, seperated by a week apart, in the same church.  Infact, the first are John and Mary (Macefield), the second are John and Mary ((Hadley (widow)).  Dated 19 Aug 1827 and 27 Aug 1827 respectively.  Listed on pages on subsequent pages of the register.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out?  or at least let me know that'll i'm have to make a guess  :D

Looking for Thomas Long born 1825 Wiltshire in the 1841 census there are two - one in Wilsford, Amesbury and one in Sutton Veney, Warminster. I think yours is the first one as it comes under Amesbury and also the Sutton Veney one is still there with a wife in 1851.

According to the 1841, Thomas's father is a coachman. I think that Hostler in 1851 could well be Ostler ie working with horses.

You're welcome. It was pure luck finding that 1861 census when I searched using Devizes as a keyword, it was lucky that he used that as a place of birth on one census.

It looks as if the family moved to London at some time between the marriage and the birth of the first son, and then returned to Devizes before the death of Thomas in the March quarter of 1854. His son was born just after his death, in the June quarter of 1854. Perhaps Thomas was ill and returned home to die and so that his wife would be near family. A similar thing happened in my family. My gx2 grandfather and family moved to London from Suffolk and my great grandmother was born there. Then the next thing I found, three months later, was his death from TB back in Suffolk, and the family there in the following census.

Perhaps your William was aware that he was born somewhere in London, but because he lived in Devizes as a young child, probably also considered that is where he came from.

Another lesson learned.  I'll add it to my ancestry-hunting lessons ;)

Even after almost 8 years, I still need practice and lessons on searching for ancestors!

The 1901 is from Clacton again, and they are listed...
