Hi Christine,

Were your Bates from Penn?  If so there is probably a connection somewhere.  I don't think I have a direct link to any of the names but on the other hand most of my Bates past families had lots of childrens which I haven't researched.  So it is possible that your Bates's are descended from a sibling that I don't have on my tree.  So if they are from Penn could be distant cousins?

Hi Pat,

A thought popped into my head.  If you cannot find anything on Ada Mary.  Did they have adoption in 1875?

Just a thought.

Hi Pat,

Had a little time on my hands so had a play on the net looking for your Ada Mary Prentice.

No luck.  I did find an Ada Matilda Prentice born in Wycombe in 1875 and died in Wycombe 1876 at 1 year old.  I couldn't find a record of her birth in 1875 so was wondering if may this could be your Ada Mary with the middle name recorded incorrectly, especially if  the family was very poor.

By the way are you Pat Prentice from Water End?

Best wishes
Christine

Hi Daniel

I wouldn't know either.  Some sort of cousin maybe?  However many times removed ?

Happy researching

Hi Daniel

Maybe distantly connected to your Bates.   Maria Jane Bates was my G Grandmother.  She was born 1846 at Forty Green, daughter of Joseph (b1799 Penn) and Betsy Street.  Joseph was the son of William Bates (b 1763 Penn) and Ann Perfect (b1769 Penn).  So not directly linked but maybe distant cousins?

Hi there,
I have just read your posting from March 2006 re Charles Case.  My GG Grandmother was Maria Case who was Charles Case's older sister.  I have the parish records for Letcombe Bassett on cd .  They show the first mention of the Case family in Letcombe with the birth of George Case the first of 8 children of Thomas and Elizabeth amongst whom was William father of Charles and Maria.

I was wondering if you have any information on Thomas and Elizabeth as I seem to have to have ground to a halt.  Elizabeth was born in Black Bourton, Oxon, but I don't know her birth surname or where Thomas came from originally.

Can you help?

Chris.

Hi Jan,

Many thanks for taking the time to find this information for me.  I can now try and see if I can establish if this is my William Carter.

Kind regards,
Lucky girl

Hi Jan,

According to William Carter's marriage certificate to Maria Case his father is named as William Carter  a Draper.
